i have a line on a 2002 mp megablock.ive heard rumor there where bad batch of blocks at some point in time would this year be one of the good ones?i forget the name of the company that cast them but pretty sure its not world.

I have a mega block that is built to a 572 wedge they are great no trouble with it, I don't know the casting year though

I have one from around year 2000, and it doesn't have the stiffening ribs in the valley, which it needs. check for that and cylinder wall thickness. You can still make good power with one of those blocks cast when mine was, but things start to move around and I had problems keeping an intake gasket in place. I use just RTV silicone sealer now.

What bore do you want to take it to ? The one I have has a sticker saying not to take it past 4.340 , it's a siamese bore block that got used for a 426 build because of that.

If possible I would ask to see a sonic check if you want it use it at that bore or larger before buying it, even offer to pay for the sonic check. Dan Costello said it's possible to shift things around or even just sleeve the thin holes to bring it back to being used at 4.500 if that is the ultimate intended plan.

The block I have only has a couple of shifted bores but I'm leaving it at 4.250.

But plan of having it completely checked/ machined if it hasn't already been , deck on mine was about .020 tall and the lifter bore geometry was off.

The mega block I had was one of the last made by MP
and was the small bore.. I had it sonic checked and
it could have gone 4.5 EASY with a real good wall at
4.5(almost .200 wall at 4.5).. I dont recall what year
that block was made in.. maybe about 2005

Has Mopar name on block, but hadn't sonic checked it as of yet. It is still as new. I have a set of Diamond B1 4.5 bore pistons I want to install into it to make a 540 eventually. I bought an Indy MAXX aluminum for my 572 B1 I'm installing now. I didn't want the extra weight on the nose of my car. I am told it will go 4.5 but will definately check it first.

My 499 cube indy -1 head engine is a 99 year model block. Indy did all the prep work on it and lightend it for me. I assembled it myself. I don't know what years were bad casts myself

thx for the responses guys this is actually a MP 500 shortblock assembled at cummings when the where building MP crate engines.PN#5007665.forged crank and eagle h-beams but hyperutetic pistons.i was thinking if i could get a good deal on it i would replace the pistons with some nice forged units.just didnt want to buy it and find out the block wont go any bigger.sonic checking is probably out of the question until i purchase it and dissassemble.just wanted a heads up on any potential BS i might encounter.

Raff, you are the first person I have heard say that , everything I read in the mags said differently , were the mag writers getting free hemis to say good things?

Having personally owned a Cummins built crate hemi and then spending about 3.5k to fix it I would treat that engine as a CORE, $3000 tops ...

Best Machine was getting some of them to straighten
them out(that was back when I was dealing with Best)

My 2001 Cummins built 528 was rebuilt by Ray Barton on Mopars tab to the tune of $5000. I agree treat this block as a core, the finish on the cyl walls is too rough, and will square edge the rings if run.
