Is anybody starting their burnouts in first gear and shifting to 2nd and then 3rd? I am running a 904, transbrake non LBA valve body.
I am having trouble getting my car to hold still burning out startin in 2nd, even coming in to the burnout at close to 6k with some water on the ground. Car just wants to push forward big time.
I am wondering if my summit 4 yr old line lock is the culprit, but I just tested it on my hill of a driveway and it holds there. I pump the brakes 4-5 times, hold the button, let off the brake and go. Even at the track unless there is alot of water, my car just grabs and wants to try to hook instead of spin the tires.
What could be causing this? I need to be able to get some heat into these tires on the road. Would starting in 1st gear help? Is my linelock no good?

Yes start in first, make a fast stab of throttle not slowly getting in it. Then shift second under power as soon as possible. I think you would have better success using vht.

What works great on the street,put a small puddle in front of each rear tire ( about the size of a pancake ) then pour a line up to the front tire. (VHT or other traction compound ) start your burnout, and as soon as it starts smoking, roll out and continue the burnout about 80 feet. Back up into the tracks you just put down ......and your good to go
....BAD A$$ STREET CAR.....

Let me guess how this comes about... Bunch of guys, a few cars, and muscle car hormones. Inventory: "well, we have beer, piss, and Dr Pepper". "Oh and here's some MEK in the trunk." "Hmmm....no brainer; let's mix the Dr Pepper and MEK and see what happens".

Thanks for the replies fellas! I will start the burnouts in first gear.
The way we were doing it was laid down some rubber...then sprayed some VHT on the rubber, lit on fire with a torch, puddle of VHT under the tires, burnout and carry it out a couple of times, and then try a launch.
This was on asphalt, on motor, and on a radial pro...even footbraking at 1500rpm blew the tires off, but then again, I couldn't do a "real" burnout. Wondering if I can get the radials to work or if I am wasting my time and should go to an ET street bias or Hoosier QTP

How much acetone to VHT? We were using a sprayer and using straight VHT.

just go to the junk yard get an old electric windshield washer bottle and pump..mount it in the trunk and run the hoses to the front of the rear tire in the wheel wheel...put a button on the dash..
fill it with what ever you want and spray the rears any time you need to...

They sell Mek at lowes, Home Depot, walmart. It's just as dangerous as gasoline. I mean we arnt drinking it.
I got time to listen!  I am all about using something that works and is somewhat more affordable...A bottle of trackbite here is $60 plus taxes
I used straight cherry cola years ago....it helped somewhat, but my car was a lot slower back then.
I was not aware what Mek was, I just hear a lot of people saying to stay away from it as it is "harsh stuff". Do they label and sell it under that name also? Was at home depot today, saw Acetone, but no Mek.
