If there's a run for US made A-body T-bars greater than 1.12" for less than $200. I may be in.

I personally hate Chinese products and try to keep it at a minimum on my cars as some things are unavoidable. The last thing I would want to run are Chinese wheels or suspension components as it could be a compromise to safety. I understand that people have limited budgets, but I would not want to cut corners on a highly stressed part just to save a few dollars

Don't get me wrong I would take a US made bar over a Chinese bar all day long but I was surprised that the Chinese don't make them already.
A lot of the US brand parts are actually made in China - but that's not the point it's the quality that counts!

Oh they make 'm alright;

But just not (yet) with Mopar bar hex-ends it seems. Most are just splined ends.
Maybe if possible, if one could make an adapter with splined internals and hex-outside, you could use the bars from a different car-brand or application.
But I would think the adapter will be too thin and might break or split, unless the larger C-body torsion bar mounts are used perhaps.

You'll be suprised how many "US-made" stuff comes out of Asia...

I was under a 2006 Ford Ranger 4x4 they other day when I noticed it also has a torsion bar suspension. Best I could measure it looks like they are 41" long and 1.1 diameter. The hex is bigger and would need to be machined down. Possibly a cheap source for 1.1 torsion bars?

now that is interesting..
length is just right and machining the hexes isn't a problem at all..

If you go that route, then why not step up the t-bars to 1.48 size to match the sockets?

Actually, a variation of this idea was examined several years back by some members of Mopax. It still came out a bit pricey and you end up with a piecemeal suspension.

As do late model Chevy trucks and a few other light duty SUVs. There is no shortage of t-bar manufacturers with the proliferation of t-bars in newer vehicles. Problem is getting them to tool up a bar specific to a vintage Mopar.

We played with this idea to combat the clocking issue, as it would allow everyone to clock their bars for their desired ride height and still retain the adjuster in the control arm for final dial in. As usual, cost prohibitive for too slim of a market. T bars are a weird segment, not a lot of folks have the tooling to do them anymore here in the states.

Yes my 2007 Suburban has them too but they are too long, the ranger ones seemed to be the correct length for B/E-Bodys. That's why they caught my attention. Most likely cheap at wrecking yards and if you machine them anyhow to fit the socket you could adjust the clocking as well. If I didn't already spring for 1.120" I would give it a try. Also I wonder if thicker ones are available for different sized engines?

The Ford bars are used in a variety of cars: Rangers, Explorer etc. The spring rates are different (Rangers could come with 3 different spring rates) between models and engines.
Are the hexes offset?

At PRI I believe I spoke with Sway a Bars and hex bars were not on their menu, period, that surprised me.

And regarding a "slim" market, everything mopar is slim, however as much as the number of cars maybe leveled off, the awareness of the need for larger TB's has finally taken hold, and somebody is going to meet the demand, as more discover the pluses of the larger then OEM bars.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

In my opinion a lot of people are aware of the better handling of larger bars but are holding back due to the high price of current offerings.

Just found out that Chevy Astros/GMC Safaris also used torsion bars. Original bars are 41" long (aftermarket only 35") and have a 1.1" diameter (not 100% sure though). Also they seem to have the same hex offset as Mopar bars...

OE numbers are: 15990702 and 15990701

I see prices ranging from $190 - $300 for those (new) bars.
Pretty stiff for a mass-produced item.

Absolutely. Mopar torsion bars are a butt rape in regards to pricing especially whan you can buy a pair of performance coil springs for half the cost.

Mopar torsion bars are not mass produced anymore. They are made by hand, one at a time. Nobody could afford to tool up a mass produced torsion bar anymore for the Mopar crowd. You would run the production line for a few hours and have a years worth of inventory on your hands.

My reply related to the Chevy bars. The prices I found for new ones ranged from $190 each ! Unless I looked in all the wrong places. Not a sane alternative yet unless you can find and want to use used ones.

Bingo. I know some people think that there is this massive market for these things, but the numbers don't lie. We make a run of 50 sets once or twice a year, and that is about it. I don't know what the Firm Feel guys do, but I'd imagine it's about the same, if not less since they stock so many different bars. Even if everyone on this thread bought a set in the sizes that they are claiming (1.24+) you've got what, 10 sets sold? Best bet if there is really a desire for these one off bars, is someone throw down the cheddar and have a company make a custom set run, and see how fast they sell. They won't be cheap, but I'd probably be in for a set just to try it out, but to be honest I think that you'd be in the 500.00/pr or more ballpark.

Come on guys, I don't make a lot of money. But for what we are asking these bars to do and the experience that Firm Feel offers along with the bars, I don't think $300.00 $400.00 is too much to ask for our small party.
At least you guys get cheap shipping.
When I go looking for the cheap route I decide on a pay my time wasted rate of $15.00 per hour I pay my self.
It adds up quick that I will be paying myself more in lost time looking to do it cheap then to pay the pro to do it right.
Maybe its because I am getting old and can see my past is longer then my future.
Have fun, you can't take it with you.
