I found a great deal on a set of 17" American Racing wheels for my truck. What's the deepest backspace I can run WO problems? It's an 80 D150 stepside.

I have ran a 10" wide wheel with a 4.25" BS with no trouble.

The spec is 17x10.5. The seller thinks 5-5.5" BS. That would be around 0 offset. I'm afraid they're going to be too wide. I think that an 18 might do better. I think the upper control arm/ball joint will hit the edge of the rim. I'm going to try one tomorrow and see.

I run a 4.5 backspace on the front. that works on the rear with no tubbing. if you tube the rear you can go up to 7.5 backspace on the stock width truck axle.

this is all 15" rim though. those large wides can be tricky to fit stock fenderwells.

see if you can post some pics as you test fit them.

The wheels I tried were 17x10.5 with a 5.5" BS. That would be close to a 0 offset. The fit WO rubbing anything. However, the valve stem was on the back side of the wheel and hit the track rod end. Back to the hunt.
