Hi
Thought I would share some pictures of a car that fell into my lap this week.
It is a 1939 dodge coupe.
Time to do a lot of reading for options on engine and suspension.
I spoke to a guy last night that has a 1937 wrecked coupe that wants to sell. It comes with a 37 sedan parts car and 340 with four speed I am looking at today.

Just remember the 37 has a solid front axle and the 39 does not.

If you are looking for a parts donor, then the 37 is probably not a good choice. Looking for another project then that's a neat ride.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Hi
The 37 comes as a parts package, I am really wanting the 340 and four speed that is in the deal.
Probably going to sell off the 37 parts to fund the 39.

your 39 looks to be in decent shape,, 39 the first year of front IFS,, other then in 34 i think they gave it a whirl,,,,ford and GM of that ear still had a straight axel and truck style trailing arms,, A 341 would be great...but buying a 37 that has no useable parts to get it ???

im pretty sure 1939 and 40 front suspension are the same,, i have a 40 coupe,, 41 and up are different,,the lower control arms are the same 39 to 54,,,some of the suspension bushing are the same,,,lowers..all the same,,best up grade u can do are disc brakes,,,easy,,,,and move the upper shock mount from the control arm to the frame,, makes a world of difference,,I have a pair of NOS MOOOG upper control arms for the 1939/40 that are designed to look and work like the 1941 and up,,upper control arms,,feel free to ask,,,if i can help ide be glad too,,, i just did dropped up rights and new front coils,,, rack and pinion,,,on my 40 dodge

Hi
Thanks for the responses.
I would like to hear more about the suspension disc brake and shock upgrade.
I should have been more clear on the 37 cars.

They are just basically scrap. Some usable parts for someone, I don't like to see anything scrapped before good parts are pulled.

The 340 was pulled after the accident and stored in the garage untouched.
I made a offer but no word yet from the owner.

Any links for the brake upgrade?
Dave

I have a 37 that I maybe could use some parts for, depending what you end up with.

Keep me in mind...

Never under estimate if a car can be put back. We build two cars that most would have hauled across the scales. Crap make that four cars we need to stop working on junk.

The last street rodder had a car pulled out of a ravine and made into a show car.

Nice cars. These 37'-39' era cars are really growing on me since a 40'-41' Willys is my favorite street rod but I will never be able to afford one of those.

My Dad built a 39 dodge sedan street rod in the early 80's and if I remember correctly he took an 8 3/4 rear end out of a early 70's satellite wagon and the leaf springs and all bolted right into the car!!

I love my 37 Plymouth pickup, it will never be for sale as long as I'm alive, took me 30 years to find a good one that was affordable

I took a 48 Plymouth that had rust holes on every flat surface the could hold water and stuck it on a Dakota chassis to resemble an old dirt track race car. I would love to do the same thing to a 35-38! My coupe has been on the road for 4 years now. Scrap is dependent on the abilities and ambition of the person in possession of the said scrap.
Before picture, this is the driver side floorboard, body mount and rocker, looking from the passenger side of the car. Gene

This is the car, sitting on the Dakota chassis, this picture is about 2 years old, the paint is more weathered (by nature). Gene

personally I am not a fan of the stock front suspension.
and the cost to upgrade to PS and disc brakes is pretty high.

I like the must II style front end for a low rod or with Gassers getting so popular a straight axle would be a cool way to build that car.

here are some Plymouths for ideas
