I got the call from one of my go-to buds. You know the kind of guy that you have a pact with. The kind that you will drop what you are doing and go pull him out of anything pact. He had just put 8 gallons of gas in his diesel! So we disconnected the batteries, pulled it to my shop and it sits in my bay. We did not cycle the key so the pump in the tank did not charge the fuel system. I have to get it cleaned up tomorrow. I have located the fuel line that goes in the rear of the fuel filter of his 2004 2500 4wd. I could either pull it off and pump it dry or take the filter out and turn the key on and it would fill the filter reservoir. Then I could pump it out with my Holley blue pump that I use to drain gas tanks and transfer Naptha from my 55 gallon drums all the time. Anyone had this happen and what did you do?

This is quite common. We get this call at our shop all the time. Since its a 04 without all the exhaust regen stuff, I would just siphon the fuel out. We have an electric siphon pump that we run the hose down the filler neck, most trucks we can get it to the fuel some have baffles and you end up pulling the filler neck hose at the tank and siphoning from there. If your real lucky theres a drain on the tank but probably not. Then just drain all the gas / diesel mix you can possibly get out. Refill with diesel and your good. What little gas will be left will be no problem on the older trucks like this one. Now if it was a newer truck we would drop the tank and get all the fuel out. Hope that helps you.

My main square Dodge buddy has a 98 24 valve dually.

He let his sister borrow it, and she stopped for "gas" and filled it up with you guessed it, gasoline.

Got back on the interstate, after a short it "ran away", and eventually stopped. Of course she re started it. And it did it again. All according to her.

That is when she realized something was amiss. DUH! Had it towed to her house.

After we got it home, pumped out the fuel in the tank, changed the filters, and filled it with fresh diesel, it started, and is running fine.

Buddy was expecting pump damage, fried injectors, etc, but it has been nearly a year and it is still running strong.

If yours was not started, simply pumping the tank out and refilling should be all you need, though it would be a fine time to do the filters ...

It takes gasoline to interest me.

If you could get a hose into the filler neck to the tank, use the blue pump to drain (or had you thought of that already?).

...and since you live in Texas, you'll have plenty of starter fluid for your buddies brush pile this Winter.

Well, it was an easy fix. The 04 have a 3/8" quick connect fitting right below the fuel filter so all I bought was the tool to pop out the fuel line to the tank. I installed my fuel hose from my blue Holley pump and sucked out 15 gallons. So that is a 50/50 mix with gas and diesel. WE filled it with about 15 gallons of diesel and it cranked up with no problems. I think he needs to change the filter after this runs out.

May be showing my ignorance, but what's a blue Holley pump?

Just an electric fuel pump, but I wouldn't have thought of using one for siphon pump. Fantastic idea if you need to do such things.

We use a Cummins fuel transfer pump off a Dodge for our siphon pump.

I did that with my 92 dually. I ended up filling the rest of the tank with deisel and driving home. Bought 6 5-gallon containers and siphoned it off. Used it all up on a trip out west with no issues. One 5-gallon container per 30 gallon fill-up.

I put gas in my diesel shortly after I bought it about 8 years ago. I might have pumped in 5 gallons until I realized. I just went to the diesel pump and filled the tank and ran it through. I never had any problems with it and that was over 100,000 miles ago.
8 gallons might be a little much but it depends on the tank capacity.

I had a friend that filled up his ford on a trip and ran it for about 2 miles before it just quit. It may have been ok, but it was an easy fix.
