If you look at the pictures of it on the dyno you'll see that the entire engine is not painted. Smart people don't paint the engine till after it's dyno'd/broke in just in case ...

Daryl the owner is having his paint guy spray it...wasn't my choice and I had to hear about it everyday from my Dad.
It's just a daily driver believe it or not! It's all stock '69 parts and we used the MP 278 hyd. cam, Manley valves, and Diamond pistons @ 10:1 compression.
He wants to drive this thing everywhere and he brought me 90% of the parts so I basicly built it the way he wanted it done.

Short dyno video, not of the 6500rpm run as I thought we would make more pulls but after reviewing the data Daryl was happy and wanted to go home:

I'm glad you posted this, I was feeling bad about my ability too make power with te 426 Streeet hemi motors, it seems like every one else got better numbers than mine did I never dynoed one with exhaust manifolds either Bryan, did you do any other jetting other than the metering rods? What quality fuel where you testing with and when was the tests done? Indio in June, July, Aug or Sept is not condusive to get good results I did a bunch of dyno testing up here in the winter months, high B.P. low humidty and cold air(32F ot lower ) and got oustanding results, did a similar motor several months back and didn't get as good as results The weather is what it is that day and the N/A motor can't be fooled about the air it is running on I've got to keep my mind open so I can fill it with knowledge instead of believing what some other folks(magazines) print and say Thanks for the post and info

Well I did the dyno session 2 days ago. With the weather station and correction factor I don't see why weather would be much concern?

I test on Chevron 91 from the pump....

Yes a single change of the back carb's metering rods was all I had to do.

I've heard that original Hemi's completely stock (street hemi's) make around 450-460HP. This is FACTORY stock...but I have no data on a FACTORY stock 426...

Given that we got 480HP with a better cam but less compression seems correct to me!
Daryl was worried about it hitting 425HP

It is what it is...

Years ago I recall reading someone dynode 477hp from a dead stock hemi through stock manifolds......so it seem this is a good ballpark figure.

When Chrysler released the new crate motor back in the late 90's they rated the 426 at 465 HP with a juice cam and 9.0 compression ...

Hi Brain, hope all is well. What rod/ bolt combo is in that engine that required you to cut the windage tray to make room for the bolts? Is it a stock rod with a nut and bolt?

Thanks, Troy

....there is nothing like driving my 1968 Hemi Dart around town and having people looking at you like you're nuts!!

Yes stock rods with ARP bolts. They extend past the end of the nut quite a bit!

Is your tray a stroker tray? I know jegs sells one for the 3.75 stroke & also for a 4.25 stroke. I got the stroker tray for my 383 in case I wanted to build a low deck 470. Here's a pic of the stock tray next to the jegs stroker tray. I also drilled 3/8" holes for better drain back.

Stroker tray is not really needed for a 3.9 stroke and 2.2 rod ends .

The last time I was in Indio in July or August it was 105 F with around 50 % humidity at 9:00 A.M. and I have no idea of the B.P. I can remember swimming in the local motel swimmimng pool in Blythe at 1:30 A.M. in the morning in the summer when it was still 98 F The weather does matter, trust me, it was 51 F outside my porch at 8:30 A.M. here this morning. Forcast calls for 85 F for the high here today

The reason dyno's have correction factor is for changes in weather...I don't see how the weather can change the corrected #'s as the weather station takes care of that

I dyno year round and don't see any difference between summer and winter in corrected #'s. It does affect the tuneup as we tune for the air the engines using, so we are mindful to tune for the customers purposes.
