2 part question: how many gallon capacity should the fuel tank be for a race only doorslamer with alcohol or e85 as fuel? Do the plastic tanks hold up well to alcohol or e85?
Thanks

I had a 5 gal plastic cell in my car with E-85.. I
didnt have any problems.. if you run meth I would
pull the foam... my older cell didnt have any problems
with the foam... I could make 3 passes before topping off

I run methanol and have a 3 gal tank, I ran out of fuel once but it was ľ of a mile to the starting line and about a 1 ˝ back. I was also running in a “full rich” position trying to cool the motor off before the next round.

thanks Mr P. That brings up another question...Is there much difference in the different brands of plastic cells? there seems to be some big price differences.

I ran plastic cell`s for years but since I got an alum. one, nothing compares to the looks and ruggedness. They don`t sink in the middle and apparently are unaffected buy certain toxic fuels. Mine`s a 12 gallon but you may only need a 5-8 gallon to suit your needs.

For E-85 or Meth fuels I wouldnt run a alum tank..
those fuels absorb water and water corrodes alum...
just like it does on a carb.. and where its welded
will burn off any protective coatings on the alum

Wasn`t sure about the different fuels just heard alum. was a better choice over all but now I know. Since I run a VP unleaded fuel, I don`t have any issues w/the alum. acting up.
