'68 Hemi 4-speed RR, 172-tooth flywheel, Lakewood bell with block plate, Hooker headers.
Tired of the agony of R&R-ing the stock direct-drive starter.
Spoke with them and they're uncertain about fitment with the Lakewood bell; thought I'd check here with you guys. Any fitment problems or tips?
Stock DD starter, Lakewood & headers have been in the car 28 years; Lakewood provided a spacer for the DD starter. Every few years the DD starter cooks and I have it rebuilt, but it hasn't been "right" since the last time.
Thanks in advance!

Are you sure it is a 172 tooth? I thought they only came in 143 tooth. I live here in Carson City and have been to RobbMC a few times. I have a 1969 RR with a Wedge (469) Hooker Headrers, Lakewood Bell Housing, 143 tooth flywheel with no fittment issues.

There is a company that makes a mini-starter to bolt up for the 172 ring, as soon as i find it i'll write back.

RobbMC, Mallory & PowerMaster all make them, but the Robb unit is touted as the best and I like the way their solenoid can be clocked anywhere. Plus, they're a Moparts sponsor.
Main thing is whether any mods are needed to adapt it to my setup, which I would think is not particularly unusual.

Haven't had one in my hand so don't know. I have a semilar problem, i have a 130 and 172 wheel but my clutch setup is for the 172 but no starter( have mini starter for 130 but no clutch) Not sure which way is best, any opinions?

Just curious. How does the Robmc handle heat. My headers are awfully close and sometimes my starter heat sinks and its really hard to start.

No issues with heat but my headers are coated.
