I just pulled the third member out of my Aspen. I can see that the wear pattern on the teeth of the ring go from the inner most edge to the outer most edge. Is this normal? I do not know how many passes are on the it. I got it from the guy that sold me the Aspen. I checked and the lash is .005.

That would be "toe to heal" Raul and you should be looking at the convex ( drive ) side. If the pattern is pretty much centered on that side, that's good. Backlash @ .005" is good also.

Thanks John
I looked at the drive side and the pattern is not centered. It starts about 1/4" from the innermost part of the gear and goes all the way to the outer edge. I also looked at the 3rd member that was in the car when I bought it. I took it out because it has 7 teeth that are broken off at the outside edge of the gear. The lash on that one is .009. The drive pattern on that one goes across the whole tooth. Were these set up wrong, or do I have another problem in the rear end?

pics would help, but if the pattern is running off the heel (outer portion of the gear ) on the drive side ( convex ), and starts 1/4" in on the toe side, you need a thicker spacer. It's not that far off though. Maybe add a .015"spacer. .009" is a little out of spec on the loose side, but only a couple thou. Assume it is a 8 3/4?

I'm going to take both of them to Henry at AZ Dif and have him set them up correctly.

Many times that once a gear is worn in and you try
to re-set it it will howl.. they just dont like to
be re-set with worn parts.. but if its close it shouldnt
make much difference

FYI, they like cup cakes. I bring them a box form my daughters Cakery when I have to stop over there.

Mr P Body It's a Stock eliminator car and it is so loud I'll never hear it howl.

John Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to bring them some so they stay happy.
