NHRA rules have changed so that during "Test and Tune" events, a 100% stock production car on factory tires can run whatever they run without any additional safety items (I paraphrased that). If you run drag radials, or have any other mods, such as a tune, etc., you have to have the proper safety equipment for the ET. If you run in an NHRA sanctioned race, you have to have the safety for the ET required no matter what. Scroll to page 10 http://www.nhra.com/UserFiles/file/2...Amendments.pdf NHRA DRAGS: STREET LEGAL STYLE PRESENTED BY AAA (Page xiv) (5th paragraph) Additionally rRequirements and specifications for Street Legal are the same as those for the Summit Racing Series with the following exception: Unaltered 2008 OEM model year and newer production cars running slower than 9.99 and 135 mph do not have to meet the requirements and specifications for the Summit Racing Series except for the following: Convertibles and T-tops must meet Summit Racing Series Roll Bar and Roll Cage requirements, All drivers must meet the Summit Racing Series Helmet and Protective Clothing requirements.” SECTION 1: ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES AND APPEALS, PARTICIPANT AGREEMENTS AND ADMINISTRATIVE AND PROCEDURAL RULES; RULE CHANGES; RULE ENFORCEMENT; DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCEDURES, 1.2: SCOPE OF RULEBOOK 1.2.2: NEW RULES AND RULE CHANGES (Page 3) NHRA rules may be added, deleted and/or amended from time to time and at any time by NHRA. It is the participant’s responsibility to stay abreast of all NHRA rule changes that may affect the participant. Additions, deletions or changes to the Rulebook (collectively referred to herein as “amendments”) will be communicated as follows: 1. Publication in National DRAGSTER; and/or 2. Publication on NHRARacer.com Amendments are effective and enforceable immediately upon publication either in National DRAGSTER or on NHRARacer.com or in National DRAGSTER. Racers are responsible to consult and stay up to date with any rules on and related information published on NHRARacer.com. Amendments will be labeled as amendments to the Rulebook.

That exception is for "STREET LEGAL STYLE PRESENTED BY AAA" events only. It is not an across the board exception for new cars. This exception has been repeatedly taken out of context all over the internet since it came out.

Most of the Races being run with these type cars while Run at NHRA & IHRA Tracks are "Special Events" with the Tracks being Rented out for the Race that is why they do not fall under any of the NHRA or IHRA rules. All I can say is what some of the Tracks down here say,and they have ask me next time I come to Bracket Race to bring my Corvette and make a few pass's for everyone to see. With that being said when you Show up at the Track in a 9 or 10 second Street Legal HellCat Challenger they are going to look for reason's to not to let you run it.Them Chevy & Ford people will pay your entry not to see it run but to see what it will break with that much Horse-Power!

If the car is not modified in any way they can run 10.00 with only a helmet required. Any quicker, and they need the safety equipment and an NHRA license.
Raul
If the ONLY modification was a set of drag slicks, then wouldn't the driveshaft loop rule be the only one that would apply?....just like the 11.49 and slower classes?? That and of course course the helmet....

A guy around here has an 08 Chally that he put a blower on. He has it up to a 6.80 1/8 ET and he has blown up the tranny, had to update the driveshaft and beef up the rear end. Hopefully they have done this from the get go at the factory.
BTW, he drives it everywhere and has over 120K miles as of the last time we spoke (at the track).
IIRC 08 was a one year only peg-leg weaker rear diff. By 09 they were using legit LSD in all of them.
Also, the ZF auto in the Hellcat is rated for 664 lb-ft. (Meaning it'll stand up to a lot more)

With 707hp what do they need water for anyway??? I love it but I really wonder is that all they are ever going to show it do is burnouts??
I can power brake my old 89 ranger through third in water....and it's a 2.3 lol Seriously though, I want to see back to back drag numbers between the big 3's offerings same track, same day, same tires....
