More info. The car is together or apart & you have some new ones & the threaded shank is longer than what came out of there or? Generally you want to screw em into the sleeve as far as they will go leaving enough threads so the sleeve can be turned to make the assy a bit shorter later when it is aligned. I'd start by getting the box halfway between it's lock to lock travel and the wheels straight ahead then screw em in till the length is just right so the tapered tie rod ends will go right in the center st link/lbj tapered holes with some threads left on each end so the assy can be shortened a bit further as needed to get the toe in dead on but more info on what's going on/where you are at

I just did tie rods (MOOG) on a 70 'cuda. I reassembled them with six threads exposed on each tie rod , the same way the old ones came out. This was very close to the original toe. BTW the tie rods with the RH thread are the outer tie rods. I can can explain that further if you need.

tape measure the length of the sleeves & maybe the poster above could measure his cuz he just did his '70 cuda. overall (C to C) length of the tapered stud centerlines of the tie rod ends screwed into the sleeve(s) would help also

Give me a few minutes and I will crawl under the car and try to measure mine. Not sure I will get a good measurement with them bolted in but I will try.

OK, here the photos. They were not easy to take since I don't have a lift but I hope it will help.

Not saying my setup is perfect, but it is aligned and it drives great with no pull and no noises. I rebuild everything with rubber.

I forgot how much the alignment show chewed up my tie-rods...
