Just wondering if anyone has found a way to put modern OIL & WATER gauges behind a factor 1971 E-Body Rallye dash? Just seems their would be a huge call for it. The stock gauges seem to be no better then a idiot light to me, very slow and not accurate.

New drives using the stock needle and face plate would be great to have. If I had extra gauges I might try and piece something together myself.

I posted an article over a year ago (reposted a couple of times) on installing a voltmeter in place of the amp meter in a rallye dash. It was pretty straight forward. Some of the dodge vans/truck used gauges with the same orientation as the gauges in the rallye dash and they are 20 years newer. I'm not sure if you can find autometer, etc with the orientation you would need but if you can, go for it. It's not that hard. Good luck.

I want the dash to remain stock on the outside. Not worried about the amp gauge, just the oil and water, then the tach would be next.

I haven't done behind the factory lens of the 71 Rallye dash...but I have modified it without opening holes but adding into the dash pod itself. Modified a 72 B-Body Rallye dash a few months ago with Autometer gauges. Speedo/Tach in the big pods and replaced the two on the right with Oil Pressure/Water.

Looks great. I found the best way to mount the aftermarket gauges is to get PVC pip and cut 1/2" rings and jam it into the hole and then JB Weld it from the backside, use the included hardware to lock it into place and wire it up.

One of the companys that advertises here has a rebuild kit for the Tach. I did it and its works just fine. I rebuilt everygauge in my dash so it can be done. Here's that article on the amp to voltage.

I don't think any amount of rebuilding is going to fix an out dated bad design. The gauges work by heating up and element to move the needle. If you ever did suddenly loose oil pressure by the time the element cools down and drops the needle it is too late. Was just hoping to get a newer / better gauge set, but the dash must appear stock.
