The brake warning/ABS light is on in my 97 Dodge 1500 4WD. I have replaced brake lines and bled everything but I can't get it to go out. Stopping power of the system seems OK. Any thoughts on what I should do to get it off?

Do you have RWAL or ABS?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have ABS, although it has the idiot light

Look at the front brake hoses. If there are wires attached to the hoses with plastic H clips you have abs. If no wires go to the bearings you have rwal. You need to verify that to determine what system you have to diagnose proprely.

So you have RWAL. As J-Body said the sensor on the rear axle would be the least expensive and easiest to do. Make sure the wires look ok as they drop down from the frame and go to the axle mounted sensor.

Looking things over, I'm not sure how this comes apart. Does wire connection just pull off? Also, the bracket is bolted to the axle and the Ebrake cable is attached. Does the sensor just pull out? Want to make sure before I just start yanking. It's really a rusty mess under there. Thanks

The wires unplug. There will be a release tab on the connector. There will be a bolt holding the sensor into the housing. Blow it off and spray around the sensor to loosen the rust. The sensor may be tight. Twist it back and forth as you lift on it with pliers or channel locks.

Disconnected the sensor and the light went out. Also followed the advice given and got it out OK.
Replacement sensor is like 52 bucks. What happens if I just leave it disconnected? I don't notice any difference without it right now
