Hey guys, I'm getting ready to rebuild a 68 440 for my 70 Charger RT. The #s matching is not around. What would be a good cam? All I plan on doing is rering and bearing, maybe some ported heads, RPM intake, and I like factory exhaust manifolds. After a divorce and child support, I'm on a budget. I was thinking of the Com Cams XE274H.Oh, and its an auto with a 354 dana. Later I want to change it to a 4 speed. Just wondering, how much are 500 stroker kits? Thanks Terry Dodge Washougal, Wa dodgooo@aol.com

You can get a kit from 440 source for under 2K.
That cam is a good mild cam, should work well with manifolds.
The DC 528 is known to work well with manifolds, its mechanical though.

I have a great cam from Crower in my 71 Charger R/T... its 224/234 @.50 and has a 112 LSA that would work well with your manifolds and have a smooth idle and great drivability. With a STOCK 11.75 Converter and 3.55 rear it ran 12.95 @109 and my car is 4000+LBS. It has almost the same spec of the Summit cam above with mabe a tad more lift. This cam has tons of low end-midrange power ,just the type of power you need for a heavy street car.
Whats the rest of the engine like, stockish or all aftermarket?
I know this wasn't for me but I used the Summit cam in a 70 440 .030 over cast piston 9:1, 906 heads no port work but they did have 2.08/1.81 valves. I used the Summit cam, T-chain set, push rods, valve springs, RPM intake, 750 Profromed holley DP, 4 hole 1/2 inch spacer, cheapie headers, Mopar orange box, recurved my distrib, 38* at 2200rpm, Mopar 175K convert (2800), and 3.91's in a full steel full interior 67 Coronet 440. Like said above the cam was great out of the gate all the way thru 5600. Very easy to tune and had great drivability.

the 222/234 @ .050 is the Crower 271HDP, grind # 32242....it's a cam I've personally used and have recommend many times over the years for mild 440s and hot 383s; never had a single complaint or heard anything but praise for that cam, it does everything you want it to do in a mildly built street Mopar. It's a great 440 six pack replacement cam that makes for great drivability with a much more noticable punch from the upper bottom all the way up.
