I had fun tonight at the track in my magnum wagon. I definitely have a lot to learn about drag racing before we get our Javelin finished. Anyway, my best run was 14.478 at 97.12 mph. Air temp was 84F and very humid. My 2005 magnum r/t is stone stock and had half a tank of cheap 87 octane fuel.

I played with a few easy things between runs. I learned that I was a little slower with the traction control switched on. I gained nearly .5 mph by removing the air filter element. Auto or manually shifting made no difference; I ran 3 passes back to back at about 14:61 (14.617, 14.613, 14.593) with the 2nd pass being manual shift. So I just left it in drive after that.

Tire pressure is my big question. I dropped rear psi to 25 but it hurt my 60 foots by 15/100ths. What kind of tire pressure do you guys run at the track in your normal all season radials?

Anyway, I had a ball at the track, learned a lot and can't wait to try again soon!

Do not lower the tire pressure on a normal radial tire. It works the opposite of bias-ply slick.

get a Diablo tuner... I dropped almost a second off my et in my old 06 AWD Mag R/T. My best time was 14.06. Leave it in D. You can change the shift points as well as frimness of shift w/ the tuner. I also changed my thermosat to 180* changed the fans, removed the goofy engine cover and iced the intake between rounds (not sure if that helps or not) because it's usually hot and humid here in Md. A 2wd should run 13's easy.

thanks for the tips! I will put the diablo tuner on my wish list and let you know how it works out. It'd be nice to break into the 13's with this thing!
Did the 180 thermostat help much? Or should I try a 160? All I did between runs was crank the heater on full blast and roll down the windows...

The T-stat helps the shifts on my SRT Challenger. They are a lot crisper now. If I drive it any when its real cold out I get a code about it not warming up enough but the preditor will clear it. That's with a 180 T-stat.
I think I get my best 60' with tire pressure at 35psi. Been hi 1.7's. and 7.70's in the 1/8 at 91mph. All on a 275 wide BFG on the stock 20" rim.
Those numbers are at 5psi out of the Procharger.

I've been racing my 2011 dodge avenger and went 14.70 than got a tuner than posted 14.00 bone stock. Amazing what a tuner will do to these cars
