Own a 1989 150 Ram pickup with 318 and 727 all stock. We noticed recently that truck was not downshifting. On inspection the pivot point by transmission had snapped off. From my extensive search of the web i think the part we need is called a throttle lever. Local dodge dealers have been no help said go to junkyard check ebay. Does anybody have an 89 service manual that can tell me is 1 the part is called a throttle lever and secondly a part number. the part we need is at the bottom of kickdown rod with a stud/pivot socket. We need this part. I think we can fabricate something to work using old part but prefer to replace it with correct part.

correct, this is what would be on a 89 truck. the TBI is slightly different than a carb rod but it has more to do with hooking to the TBI throttle lever.

there is a spring on the rod at the adjuster that is not in the pic..but it can be used with out it if MIA.

it is called a throttle pressure valve linkage rod. referd to as a throttle pressure rod or kickdown rod.

on most of my trucks I have converted them to a 3-piece linkage for better adjustment ratio when aftermarket carb/intakes combos are used.

I have some of the slide adjusters and slotted flat bars & TPV levers. PM if you need something.

thanks for the picture. What I am talking about is not shown in the picture. It connect to the lower portion in the picture. It is a lever with a small stud on it that connects to a small block. thanks again

Is this it? If the part this attaches too is "snapped off" you'll need more than the lever.

thanks John that is the part. My son took the one from our truck(to show dealers) so i am not sure which one it is exactly. The part that snapped off was the stud on the actual lever. It is either 2nd 4th or 5th(starting with top row going left to right). You got those for sale?

then that would be the shaft for the TPV in the valvebody. thats not good.

maybe it was not down all the way on the D-flat of the shaft. I had a loose one work itself up off the flat till it seemed striped/broke then fell of the stud.

if the e-clip and washer come off the shaft it could have slide down into the pan area. pan R&R needed either way.

got your PM, i get a couple lever scratch up tonight, just in case I look at those old valvebody cores in the bucket for a shaft.

correct me if I am wrong but, I think what he is saying is that the kick down rod came off the lever. And not that the lever came off the valve body shaft....Correct? I'm not sure what the lever would look like for an 89 but it sounds like it had a stud or ball on the end of it... The kick down levers I've seen had the stud on the rod like the drawn picture above.

I thought that as well but then he said the lever is of at trans not linkage rod.

I hope it is as simple as the lever sliding up off the flat of the shaft then floping till it came off.

If the VB comes out it would be a good time to change the selector shaft seal and the rubber seal under e-clip/washer for the TPV shaft.

and might as well upgrade to the newer pan gaskets from the dealer.

#4 & #5 are the same, both have the slide adjusting block held on with the hairpin.

if the stud broke off you need the block not the lever.

unless the stud is on the lever as in top row 2nd one. that looks to be a stud/lever.

either way I have them. returned your PM
