Anyone have any suggestions on which muffler to turn down the volume of our 70 Charger? We have LT headers with 2" primaries with 3.5" collectors go to a 3" xpipe. We had it dumped at the axles with some 3" turndowns. Though that setup is just a bit too loud for us while cruising around town.

We took some advice and put on some Dynomax Ultra-Flo Welded Mufflers(17221) on and finished the pipe out to the back, but boy that sounded like a stock vette and to us that sucked ass.

So we are looking for suggestions on what would take the edge off of the pretty much straight pipe, but not take it down to your everyday off the lot grocery getter.

From our research we saw Flow Master super 10s and some Dynomax race bullets. If anyone has any experience with either or has any other suggestions that would be great!

Thanks!

I went from flowmaster 40 series to the Dynomax ultra flo and love them. They are very mellow compared to the Flowmasters. I have headers and it's on a 340. Could be the different setup. I put one of the Flowmasters on my sons truck and it was quiet. Go figure.

Yea, I feel like this is a really hard question to answer. Everything sounds different.

We have a 508 stroker in ours and it sounds mean as hell just off the x-pipe, but we are trying to be nice as this is a daily driver and don't want to blow anyone's ear drums when we get on it on the highway haha... including our own, but at the same time we don't want to muffle it so bad so that we can't feel her screaming with us.

I was thinking that it may help to lower the sound to make the pipe smaller after the x-pipe? I could take it down from 3" to 2.5" or something to see if it helps at all. This isn't a race car per say... so giving up a bit here or there isn't a concern atm.

X pipe. mandrel bends. your choice of muffs up front. glasspacks alongside the leaf springs (pick ones that do not neck down where the end nipples are welded to the main case). Use the longest ones that will fit. www.classicindustries.com has a good selection. I've heard the gasses contract as they cool rearward & you can get by with smaller tailpipes, that would not be my choice. The best would be some manual cable or vac operated cutouts. Normally run thru some restricted (quieter) muffs then cut outs when you need it . I mean at that point you dont care how loud it is till the race is over & that's only 6 seconds or so & the rest of the time it's reasonably quiet. They'll never know what hit em

Yea, we are going to go with a set of Race Ready electric cutouts. Seems to us that would be the best of both worlds.

Thanks everyone!

If you have the room.

And the cut-outs usually add some performance and are a ton of fun, too. I love 'em.
