How much resistance should your drum brakes have when you put them back on. Should they rub a little or spin freely. My buddy says that if they rub a little this is okay it helps keep the drums on and they will wear to what they need to be. Thay spin but it takes a little bot of an effort. Is this okay, Thanks.

There is a slight drag.
You can adjust them so there is no drag but if you have self adjusting hardware, they will tighten back up.

I agree with your friend in that a little drag is OK...

If you think that your drums have a slight drag wait till you put in discs. In reality they shouldn't have much of a drag. very slight and should spin free when adjusting the wheel bearings. OEM disc's have a built in drag to the point where you can hardly spin the wheels enough to properly adjust the bearings. They are this way to help keep teh rotors clean of road debri.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

I adjust them until there is one point as you rotate the wheel that you can hear (but not feel it slow down) a slight "tick". On the rear I have it jacked up idling in gear, a helper puts on the brake to stop the wheel ,I spoon it out some, he lets off the brake & repeat until I hear that "tick. & after seeing how little of the lining contacts the drums I'm a believer in having new linings arced to fit the drum & following a bed in procedure.
