Hey all new to moparts! I recently picked up an 88 regular shorty and looking to put some 15x10 wheel tire combo on the back and tuck them, I'm finding the 5-5.5 pattern hard to find offset wheels for! I see lots of you guys have the pro street look goin on with your trucks did you switch to 5-4.5 bolt pattern?? Any info would help

Thanks

you want flash, or you want plain? if you're looking for just wheel size and backspace, that's easy. if you have a certain look in mind, that's going to be a bit harder. you like cop wheels? chrome? rallyes? here's a few mopar wheels, in various sizes.

so, there are choices. just depends what you think looks good, on your ride.

F-100 bolt pattern from at least the early sixties to 90's or beyond, should be easy to find wheels in any denomination.

welcome and nice 88 shorty.

I have a 88-440 truck that I used an A-body 8 3/4 with a shackle flip to tuck 12" wide/4.5 backset welds with a 29x15x15 M/T

I did have to tubb the bed flush with the frame but it was a bolt in.

if you want to keep the stock width truck axle and tubb the bed flush with the frame, you can use a 10" wide rim with a 7.5 backset to tuck a 29x15x15 M/T in the fenders with a set of long drop shackles to lower the rear of truck.

if you do not want to tubb the bed, you can fit a 10" wide rime with 4.5 backset and run a 275/60/15 without lowering the truck and not poke out the fender (maybe slighty past the wheel well lip)

you should be able to get a 10" rim with the 5 on 5.5 wbp and either 4.5 /7.5 backset to fit the stock axle.

if it is a 10 bolt rear axle you can swap the axle for sbp wheels

the 12 bolt is a little more effort to swap wbp with the c-clip/sidegear change to the 9 1/4 12 bolt axles.

a C-body (74 Newport) 8 3/4 is the same width as a stock truck axle so that is a bolt in with sbp axles and only need the spring perches moved/welded in place.

the A-body 8 3/4 shares the same 43" spring perch centers and bolt in on top of spring in the truck using car shock plates/u-bolts along with a shackle flip.

a 94 cheerokee rear axle has the 43" spring perch centers and is the same width as the A-body axle..and it bolt in under spring like the stock truck axle..this will tuck 12 with 29 M/Ts also. you can get a limited slip diff with a 3.73-4.10 gear ez-pz and hold up to a fair amount of street duty.

here is what a shackle flip looks like, you use a front rear spring hanger to replace the stock truck hanger on the back. flip the shackle and bolt axle on top of the springs like a car/DAK chassis.

swapping the bolt pattern on the front is ez-pz

81-84 d-150 front rotors or 76 new Yorker front rotors fit the 85-93 trucks.

that should give an idea of what you need to get started

That's what I was looking for scratchn!! From lookin on the hoist I figured you could put a 15 wide tire without shortening axles! It already has te axle flip I'm happy with the ride height just want some meats on the back lol... I want to use weld wheels but couldn't find them in the 5x5.5 Bp did you switch Bp?

yes, I went 5 on 4.5 wbp. I used 76 new Yorker front rotors and my A-body 8 3/4 has 5 on 4.5 Moser Engineering axles with green bearings.

that makes a stock A-body axle a 1/2" wider over all = 1/4" each side.

what axle is under the truck 10 bolt or 12 bolt?

Many of the trucks you see came from the factory with the 5 on 4.5 inch bolt pattern. The larger bolt pattern was used on 2wd trucks from 1985(or late 1984 depending on who you consult).

For the rear axle, you may have to swap axle shafts, the entire axle assembly or run adapters. The front can be changed using the parts mentioned above.

A 10" rim with 4.5-5" Backspacing should get you inside the wheel lip. I have a couple 10" Rims. I'll check and see where they sit and BS. Be a day or two.

that 10 bolt is a little tuffer than most think with street tires. add some slicks and 450HP to stress test it. maybe not so much.

you can swap 8 3/8 axle for the SBP axles

but 8 3/4 or D60 would be best bang for the buck in the long run.

is a narrower than stock truck axle out of the ? for your project?

my stock 72 4x4 truck 8 3/4 is 59" flange to flange (same as a C-body)

I have a 67 polara 8 3/4 that is 55 1/2" flange to flange with 30" axles with SBP. this will tuck a set of 10" rims in nicly with some nice fat M/Ts

Mike/Scratch, your advice is sought over in Q&A on 5 speed Dakota.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
