My early 72 (11/71) d100 K frame is almost toast. Motor mount pads cracked, bent LCA ears, bent UP in the middle.

I have a beautiful one sitting on a 77 frame. Can I grind the rivets, swap out K members, and bolt it in place, using grade 8? Would it be safe? I was going to use the whole frame, but it has the infamous. Steering box crack/repair. And one of the crossmembers is tweaked.

If the original K member wasn't bent up in the middle, I'd just swap motor mount pads, and straighten the LCA mounts.

Ugh.

So it'd be fine? Use grade 8's with lock washers and nylocks?

My rear shock crossmember is bolted in with grade 8's with about 10,000 miles and they are still tight, but the x member will have a bit more stress on it haha

X member, now I know

No washers or Nylocks.. Use grade 8 locking nuts that are swedged.

It seems to me I saw that it mostly could bolt in, but there was something upon close inspection that was welded. Just take a look, but I believe the upper control arm mount and/ or shock mount is the one part that is welded to the front crossmember or frame---I can't remember, sucks to get older.

Outcast Dodge guy.
