I picked up a flat 'glass hood for my '71 Dart. It's not designed to use the hood hinges, just dzus fasteners. Can anyone tell me what kind of project its going to be to remove the old hood hinges? I don't want to get into a big project right now. Does anyone know how much lighter this new hood is then stock? Or what a stock hood weighs? I can go weigh mine on a scale.

are you taking about a stock steel hood if so they are HEAVY compared to a glass hood and are you wanting to remove the hinges from the old hood or body of the car

Yup talking about taking the stock steel hood off and taking the hinges off the car completely.

Unbolt the hood from the hinges to remove the hood, remove the front fenders to remove the stock hood hinges from the body I removed the stock hood springs from my Duster(I left the hinges on the car ) and had some aluminmum T stock bonded onto the hood underside so I could still use the stock hood hinges with no springs so I didn't have to remove the hood every time I wanted to look or work on the engine I did use 8 Dzuz fasteners also to hold the hood on Four on the front, one on each side in the middle and two between the stock hinges in the rear and in the middle of the hood, it was a fibreglas race hood with a SS 1968 hemi race scoop molded onto it during the making of it I used to race in SO CA at LACR, the wind was always blowing there and I saw more than one lift off hood get blown across the pits by a new racer coming there I have also lost a race hood when I forgot to put all the hood pins back on when I was in a rush IHTHs

I think you can remove the hinges by going thru the fender shields.I have a 'glass hood on my 71 Demon,and I like it.it's nice to not have the hood on when working on the car.

We just did that on my sons 72 Dart as he is going to go with a glass hood. We took the doors of one at a time as it made it so much easier. Just mark the doors and put them right back on in the same posistion. It made the job much easier. Ron

So you left the front fenders on then? That would probably be easier to pull the doors then the fenders the way it looks to me.

Yes thats what we felt that removing the doors was easier then removing the fenders and I feel it was. Course you need atleast one other person to help put the doors back on. We just used a floor jack with rags on the lifting plate of the jack so not to scratch the door. Then had a friend guide the door to the hindge. And once bolted on we then aligned the door to the marks and double checked it before the door was closed. Ron
