Just thought I would share so you guys with similar dashes can get some ideas for your project....as I have taken some of other members and planted them in this ride

I rather liked the brown woodgrain....but my buddy wanted it black...

I was actually trying to get him to go towards a french polish finish with a matte top coat....to give that look of burl wood you see in fancier interiors

Here's the Astrotone finish I did in a customer's ride, you need to sand the panels free of the woodgrain making them smooth, then spray in light argent, I've only seen 2 dashes finished like this in the past, IIRC it was to be an optional dash finish but got pulled in production early, the customer fought me on this decision, but afterwards agreed it really looked good

Wow...that looks nice...why did they pull it off the options?

He likes black interiors...I do too but with some styling in there...We did away with the music master on the hump and put an aftermarket retro digital radio in there with classic knobs and push buttons. Wiring up the amplifier today...Shame they dont make one for the 69 or I would have bought one for me too

Is that a RR? Do you have a bird on the passenger side of the dash? What about the fuel gauge?

Same here on this application regarding the radio, I welded(plastic welding gun) up the radio holes on the stock dash fascia panel for a radio delete look, and a modern radio was mounted in the factory hump style cassette unit, and a marine antenna was mounted under the dash for a clean passenger fender

It is a RR indeed. I have a Fuel, Volts, and Vacuum Pod under the dash in the normal spots. I put the two most important ones at eye level.

Too glossy and the gauges look too modern imo.

Is that a Retro Sound Radio? How much "fun" was it mounting that in the dash? Were you able to get the display in the stock rectangular opening?

I have one I have been playing with and went so far as to use the pot metal face assembly from a beat am radio to use as the front mount. But the constant fitting, adjusting, and fighting have made the whole ordeal miserable and I ready to ditch the whole concept. Have also heard the Retro Sound is not very loud either.

I bought some plastic BUD boxes and now looking into the console type installation.

I like the black. I notice you removed the "fasten seat belt" warning light also. It would be cool to change that insert to say something like "HOLD ON TIGHT." Ever heard of hydro dipping??? A buddy of mine got into it not long ago. It's a really cool coating process that would be perfect for something like that...

Well the first thing I had to do to install the RetroSound into the dash was test fit it...Wasn't hard since the cluster was already out and I was making modifications to the rear chassis. The plastic knobs recesses were broken away so I JB welded two big washers on the back and place the holes dead center. Mounted the bracket kit and then test fitted the depth via the nuts. It wasn't too bad but it will take you longer than a few yours like the site says. Its just not a drop in installation as it made out to be. The Plastic black bezel (grommet) for the face surround was I thought it was going to be flush mount with the woodgrain but that simply isn't the case and I didnt want to cut the cluster. Its just hanging around behind. Hokey but its on there now and you can't see any light through the radio face and the rear adjust knobs are sitting 1/8" off the woodgrain bezel. It looks era correct but I have to power it on still.

I was holding off on the showing of that but I rewired the Fasten Seat Belt light to the Key Light delay relay for the key on the column. I removed the lens that says Fasten SeatBelt and replaced it with "Prepare for Takeoff" and it stays on about the 20 seconds that the key light is on, My buddy doesn't know about it...its just one of those things that will floor him when he sees it illuminate....all those wire hanging there are for an acrylic pod that I made to house the HiBeam (Blue) and L/R Turn indicators (Green) on to the map light insert that was there originally.

I was pushing for the water transfer printing but he just wanted it black. I wasn't going to argue with him.

Yup. Totally agree with your assessment and I just walked away for now. That's why I started investigating using the original radio frame. I really need to get off my keester and start this project again.

Thank-you.
