DY
- DENMAN TIRE CORPORATION
- LEAVITTSBURG
- OHIO
- US

408
- 40th week
- 1978 or 1988 (or 2008)

Or were Pro-Tracs done by '88?

Or are they brand new reproductions & 2008 like these?

With this current info, I'd bet reproductions.

They don't seem to be 20 years old. They are new, a little shop dusty, but I don't think they are 40th week of 08 new. maybe 1998? Either way,,, thanks for figuring it out for me.

If I'm not mistaken they quit using the Alpha notations for the width in the early 80's. All tires went to the numeric (metric) system.

I think that is correct, they went to a 4-place date in 2000.

So the tire in question, would (I guess) be 4th week 2008.

The "PRO TRAC" line of tires was a "speed shop" regular for hot-rods in the mid-70s to mid-80s. The were recently re-introduced/reproduced and are available at Coker Tire, JEGS, ebay and others.

Just like you can buy G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs, you can now buy N50-15 PRO TRACs - for mo' better traction!

3 dight numbers are 90's 4 digit numbers are 2000's. That is according to the ABC video that was posted recently on Moparts. 408 per ABC Video is 40th week of 1998. The video further showed that Tires over 6 years old are very dangerous and can be fatal as the tread peels off and the tire becomes uncontrolable. I have recently had 3 trailer tires on different trailers do this very thing. The tires remained aired up but the tread peeled off. these were 2000 and 2001 tires.
