2010 2500 Ram, the trailer is not the issue, so lets not discuss that.

Doing a little bit of poking around on the 'net this seems common with heavier trailers. My factory controller worked fine with my open trailer. Now I have a 28' enclosed trailer. Lets say it weighs 10K. Even with the gain set to 10 (Max) on the controller, it doesn't do hardly anything. I can watch the braking bar climb on the EVIC and it hardly moves, maybe gets to 25% max even when I'm trying to stop and on the trucks brakes much harder. BUT if you apply the brakes manually with the slider, the trailer stops fine.

Has anyone found a fix or installed an aftermarket controller in their 2010+ truck? Thinking about just ordering a Prodigy 3 but not sure if thats going to set off warning lights and alarms with the stock controller bypassed.

I did more searching and found the answers to my questions.

Well i finally got around to installing my Prodigy brake controller. Now the trailer stops with smooth no hassle braking and i feel way more confident towing 12,000lb plus. One thing to note is i left factory controller mounted for looks and resale, i just unplugged it from harness and wired Prodigy into same plug the factory unit was plugged into. Only thing is that when i started up the truck the EVIC said Trailer brake service required. So i ran a ground and power wire to the factory brake controller pos and neg wires and the evic is tricked into thinking it is working and all is good. What a big difference now, factory unit worked but came an way too late and by the time it did come on it hit too hard and would keep braking momentarily AFTER you released brake and when you did not want it on. If you use the manuel slide on factory unit you can control the brakes good and overide the poor proportioning the factory unit delivers, but that sucked to always be reaching for the slide when trying to steer ect. Prodigy with boost levels and reverse proportioning works really good and super smooth on gravel and pavement. One less thing to worry about when towing.

Interesting..... with the 1000's of snowbirds that run through our area during the winter, I have not heard of this issue. If it were "mine".... I'd hook it up to witech and see if it's been updated.
