Damaged the drum on the transmission. Had transmission rebuilt and had the wrong drum bushing in it. Worked in all gears the way it was supposed to, but it leaked fluid from the front. Had a new billet drum installed. Re-used the trans-brake that was on it. Had no reverse. Put it in reverse and it wants to go forward, same thing in neutral. Trans-brake will lock it 1st gear. Had the trans-brake replaced with an A-A trans-brake LBA and it does the same thing. Shifter linkage is adjusted correctly. I haven't checked line pressures on it yet. Could it be a pressure problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Push the tranz button when you want to be in reverse. Some brakes are that way.

If the MODS did their job I would not be hitting the notify MOD button. LOL

I thought that too. I pressed it in reverse and it locks it like you are staged. But soon as it is released it wants to go forward. Not sure what is going on with it. Just need some ideas, before I pull it for a third time. Thanks Mike

I have tried that also. It seems like all it has is forward gear. I thought it might be a little stiff since it was rebuilt so I tried to hold it with the wheel brakes and it is driving through them. The only time it won't go forward is when it is in park. Could something of happened to the case? Trans guy and I, both are running out of options. Mike

I dont think its a case problem... I forget right now
but I think if the band doesnt release you have a
problem... I might have said that backwards... I'd
have to look in my book

I appreciate you looking. It does air check good. I have never had a problem like this before. It is a LBA trans-brake now, so I will have to press button for reverse to engage. The old brake is a JMH brand. That is what is engraved on the cover. Has anyone heard of them? Thanks for the help. Mike

From my understanding the LBA brakes you press the
button for reverse... you might call the brake comp
and ask and should it be in reverse or neutral

I will do that. The instructions with the brake says to put it in reverse and press button to back up. Thanks, Mike

I have an A&A lba reverse pattern VB now. I had a Griner non-lba reverse pattern vb and both of them you can get reverse in N or R when you push the TB button.

I would try to find the JMH co.
He might have done some internal mods to the case for his brake to work. Those mods may not work with other brakes.
I have not heard of JMH.

What are the clearances on the forward (rear drum) clutch pack? If it wants to go forward all the time I would think these clutches are engaged all the time.

Driving forward in Neutral is more likely a rear clutch that's not releasing due to a failed Belleville.

Thanks everyone. I will have to find out what the clearances are. With the button pushed it should backup in reverse or neutral. The other Trans-brake will do the same thing. That's why I had it replaced thinking it was the valve body. The trans-brake does function. It will lock it when you press the button. But it will also lock it in reverse. It acts like forward gear is always engaged. Is a Belleville a washer? Mike

The clutch in the rear of the transmission is also called the forward clutch since it is engaged in all forward gears. In neutral or reverse it should be disengaged. This is a picture of the Belleville spring in the rear clutch. It is easy to crack, especially the early versions. It is roughly 7 inches in diameter.

I like to keep the clearance in this clutch tight, about 0.025" to 0.035". But too tight and it will drag. But a broken Belleville spring or other binding will drag in neutral/reverse.

If the Belleville is broken, would that cause it keep the forward gears engaged, even in reverse. I am not a transmission guy, reason for all the questions. I will get it pulled and take it to the transmission shop and let him know what to look for. I do thank everyone for replying. Thanks Mike

Also look for signs of the rear clutch dragging. i.e. burn marks, heat marks, etc. This clutch should be in perfect condition if everything is setup right. It doesn't shift under power and lasts forever, normally.

Broken parts can have all sorts of effects. Depending on how things jam or come loose.

Thanks. I will definitely look at the rear clutch. Mike
