I know that some do it, but no way I would be able to get a 275 tire in the stock wheel wells of my 67 Coronet 500.

I have M/T ET Sreet Radials P255/60/R15 tires on there now with a 7 inch rim with 4 1/4 rear spacing. I don't like them, but they fit.

I had 8 inch rims with 4 1/2 inch spacing, but when I went around corners the tire would rub the wheel well molding - I really liked that rim. Someday I will shorten my rear to make these rims fit.

Been down this road.....

I agree, not sure how some people on here get anything larger than a 255 on the rear. Maybe 70 VS 60 series?? After dealing with my 67 I would almost call people out ( not saying I am) on installing any larger wheels or tires without shackles "lifting" the rear up. Again this was my experience.... I did use my original rear springs after rebuilding them, wanting a "lower" look..So perhaps my car rides an inch or two lower than stock, being that the springs have "settled' some...

I spent hours measuring, remeasuring, using straight edges, looking at wheel well taper, tire width ( not tread width) space to the leaf springs etc, as I did not want $700 of wheels that did not fit...

Fronts are a no brainer, its the rear qtrs on 66-67 that are extra small. I used the Chrome center/polished alum rim TT's .. Found they offered quite a few backspace options, you might call them or just check with Summit ( where I purchased mine)....

I have 7" front w/ a 4" backspace ( 3 3/4" std?) would work fine though.. 8" on the rear with a 5 1/4" back space.. 5 or 5 1/8" might work better on the rear.. with 245-60 tires.. Was going to go with 255 but just did not want ANY rubbing at all.. Still had to install an 1/8" wheel spacer on one side..

Biggest problem on 66-67 cars is the upper part of the rear wheel well tapers together getting smaller as you go up ..

I wasn't going to answer because I don't want to be responsible if it doesn't fit, but a Plymouth wheel well should accept a 10.7 inch section width tire (most 275s) on an 8 inch rim with 4.75-5 inches of backspacing. I currently have a 10.7 inch section width tire on a 7 inch rim with 4 inches of backspacing. I'd recomment another 1/4 to 1/2 inch of BS to make it safer/easier. Its a little tight on the drivers side because with my ride height the wheel lip is at the maxium section width of the tire, I may need to lower my rear end a bit or trim the wheel lip (1/4 inch of clearance currently) but will see.

My understanding is that the Dodges have a little bit more room. Look at the SECTION width of the tire though, not the actual size. It varies.

Thanks guys It sounds like 8 inch rim with 275-15 and 4.5 back space could be a hit or miss. I have new leaf springs from eaton (stock) But I do not want to rub the wheel lip mouldings. Is their anyone running this combo? Jerry

275's on an 8" Rim would not even be close on my car. I run 255's on 7" rims, and they're tight! My street setup is 245's on 8" rims, they're even tighter.
275's on 8" rims...... Not a chance.

As I said above NO WAY on mine..

Was thinking though, how many of us have the original rear end?? 68 and newer increased the width by 3/4"?? Could be a HUGE difference when comparing.. I know my rear brakes were not correct ( 10" ) when restoring my car, which makes me think the whole rear could have been changed as I never have measured it??? And back in the "day" we used to change these out ALOT??? Just a thought...

11/16 of an inch wider flange to flange. Either someone swapped your rear end or you're doing something wrong. I don't even have an optimized offset and I have a tire with a 275 section width under my Plymouth. And I have quite a bit of room to spare on the inside.

yeah, I must be doing something wrong... I must be imagining the rub marks on the inside fenderwells, and the worn sidewall on one tire before I installed the spacer.

You had to install spacer? Sound like you're rubbing on the inside and have too much backspacing. By doing something wrong I was implying that your backspacing must be off.

5 1/4" backspace, I think 5 1/8 would have been perfect.. From what I remember when I assembled my car both sides ( the rear wheel wells) slope up and inwards (towards the tire) making the wheels well smaller from both sides the farther up inside the wheel well u go. Pretty small area.. Mini tubs would be great in a 66-67

Yeah, they do, more so on the inside. You can fit more inside if you jack it up high. I have 4 inches of BS so I'm on the outside edge with tons of room on the inner wheel well. 5 1/4 is the other extreme. Is seems most available wheels have too much or not enough BS for these cars. IMO 4 3/4 on an 8 inch rim is ideal.
