Hello guys,
Need some help. My aunt and uncle are redoing a 70 charger rt and need some help with windshield. It is an A/C car and they swear it should have a tinted windshield because of that. No sheet on the car just tag so we can not see if it should be a solid tinted front windshield or clear. Does anyone know if the A/C would affect if it is tinted or not?

Also who is a supplier of date code windshields tinted or clear? thanks

Is it tinted the whole way down? It seems like they have a green tint and blue tint that goes down about 3-4 inches and clears out. Or is it tinted all the way down?

Not really. The dealer data book says "tinted glass should be ordered". It was not mandatory. Refer to option codes H51 and G11/G21 below.

AFAIK, tinted windshield/glass is usually coded on the fender tag. Are there any "G" codes on the tag? Refer to the G11/15/21 codes in my post above.

EDIT:
I don't have any fender tag pics from a '70 car coded for tinted windshield/glass, but here are 2 '69s and a '71.

Green tinted WS with a dark band across the top is the most common and can be had at your local PPG glass dealer for around $225.00 Find an older or more "experienced" installer to put her in for ya!

This is referred to as a "shaded" WS.. shade band at the top, while the rest of the WS is tinted.. No, a clear WS is not going to be that big of a difference to your AC... BUT, I can't imagine why anyone would use a clear WS when replacing unless you had a 1 of hemi purchased from the little old lady who drove it to church on sundays...

windshields come three ways, clear, tinted, shaded. if you put a piece of white paper behind the glass on a clear w/s it appears white. on a tinted w/s it appears green. a shaded w/s is one thats tinted and has a blue shade at top, usually 4-6 inches. ac cars almost always have at least tinted glass, so the ac is more effective. on very old, sun exposed cars, the shade can turn brown.
