Well.. making some combo changes for this season. Sent the indy ez's back to compu-flow for a full port and a custom cam. It's a 440/500in. Bumped the compression from 12.3 to 13.3. The old flow numbers on the heads were 329in/229exh now flow 343in/242exh. and the old cam was the .69 / 286 @ .05 comp roller the new is a stagarred pattern .74 int/ .73 exh @ .050 286int / 300exh. The cam is ground on a 112 centerline. I'm thinking install @ 109 (opinion?) Still running the 5000 stall w/ a brake. Indy intake w/ 1150 Dom. 2" tube headers. The car is a '68 cuda; weighs 3450 with me best performance 9.95 @ 135 1.38 60'. Just waiting on the cam now so we can get her running.

That new cam has lots of duration.
Did you want to change the tq/hp peak rpm compared to the old cam? Is the lift you mentioned with 1.5 rocker ratio and is that what rockers you are running?
I like the CR increase and the porting.

From your sixty foot time, I expect you are runnng a PG transmission. It looks like more torque would help (less cam). But either way, more stall speed might help (5500-6000). And installing the cam with the intake centerline 4-5 degrees less than the lobe separation would be suggested.

At what lift is the new flow spec(peak) and does the
new cam have enough lift for the heads

Jim, I kinda just went with whatever rpm the combo requires. I was shifting @ 6900 I'm thinking 7300 now. The rockers are 1.5 crane golds. We've had pretty good luck with them. Nick @ compu-flow has used the grind a few other times in .500's. The tranny is a plain jane 727.

Raff, the heads flowed those numbers @ .700.

Ron, wishful would be in the 9.70 range but, I never like to set my expectation too high. Too many years of the motors sounding great in the garage and then they didn't run. lol

Just an observation but your car seems quite heavy for an A body.

The reason I asked was that if it has greater lift
than the max flow lift it has all that extra flow
time(it sees the max flow twice, on the up and down
with all the extra between the max)that was something
that I failed to do because I wimped out on lift thinking
I would have spring issues.... but I was way wrong

The thought process behind the exhaust duration was to get out what went in. The ez's don't have the largest exhaust ports out there. The intake is what we were running. As Jim said I think I'm gonna have to put a bigger converter on the list of things I will need. Thanks for the thoughts guys!

Mick, that dart is running great with a .590. I run one in my challenger and we used it the 'cuda years ago. Never saw your numbers though...

My 572 runs a 285/292 on 112 LCA. It's installed at 108. I run a 727 w/ a 4.10. The comp ratio is 14.8-1. I state all this because my car is weak in 60 and 330. I have more cubes, compression, starting line ratio. The last 511 Indy we put together was a friends 68 GTX.
11-1, glide, 2900lbs, 5.14 gear 286@.050 int duration it ran 6.20 1/8. We swapped the cam to 268@.050 with no other changes, 5.85 1/8. Sounds like a lot of duration to me. I definitely would install it advanced.

Jack, I think your to big in the cam department. With a Roller Im thinking 275 @ .050 .650 to .700 lift if you can get it.

Otherwise like 451Jim stated you will need a new vert. I myself think sometimes less is more.

At 12.5 comp a 500 ci can make 750 HP with a 265* @.050 .650 roller.

I think his lift is fine.. if not a bit short... the
duration.. well thats a bit much(JMO) but if thats
what I have I'd advance it a good bit

I agree Mike, I wasnt recommending less lift, just less duration. Just wasnt sure off the top of my head how much lift you could get with the less duration I stated.

I have 528 cubes, 440-1 heads, 15.1/1 compression and of four cam company's' recommendations, none are over 284 @ .050 on the intake, 292 exhaust, and most favor a 110 LSA. The current cam is 283/296 112 and didn't show much if any improvement over a 280/290/110 Isky I started with, that has only 197 at .200 intake lobe duration versus 203 minimum on the rest. All this tells me is that there is a very big diminishing return on duration after about 278 on the intake, and in your case you have less cubes and less compression. I am with the crowd that likes less duration. My 499 motor with 440-1 heads had a 283/290 Ultradyne in it, on a 110, and that one ran OK. My guess is you need to be about there or less.

Thanks Guys, lots of good stuff here although, beings I own it already maybe not good for my wallet I think what we'll do is install it at 108 and see how it runs. If it's a lemon I can always put the .690 comp back in. That ran pretty good. I also have the old .750 lift crane that a lot of people ran years ago. Once I get some track numbers, I'll do an update on this post so we can compare notes.

UPDATE: Well finally got my replacement piston from Wiseco after 5 months.... Good news is they looked very good. Got the motor back in and fired it for the 1st time. I attached a video link. Should be headed to the track for some testing within the month. Curious to see how this cam works out as well as the other changes.

Well... we finally got the car down the track with the new combo. Crazy thing is I was expecting a lazy hole shot and the '60 is a 1.35 and carrying the front end to just before the '60. Best ET for the night was a 9.91 in comparable air the old combo would have been around a 10.05. I think the next step is to take a little timing out of it and try it again. It's currently set at 35 deg thinking of going 33 deg. Also need to find the right shift point. Currently using 6800 came thru the mph trap at 7500 and pulling hard but, it hit the rev limiter. Here are the numbers off the slip

60' 1.359
330 4.033
1/8 6.292
mph 108.82
1000 8.247
1/4 9.917
mph 134.83 (on the rev limiter)

More updates to come.
