Time for a new converter, mine's shot. 3260# pump gas street/strip small block Dart, 727, 4.10 gears. Has been 6.57 with a 1.38 60' in good air and 6.70 with a 1.42 60' in street trim in the heat.

Thanks, Justin

Thanks guys. I called Coan and talked to one of their guys, ATI was closed. I'll give them a shout Monday.

All of those can be good choices, myself I have a Dynamic, all the guys mentioned build good convertors, one of the main keys is communication in both directions.

Sounds like whatever you had worked well.
Why not have whoever built it make you another

I agree with that. I use Dynamic and Turbo Action and they have been great as are any of the mentioned converters in this post. We should make a converter list or something like that and put it in the tech area as this question gets asked about twice a week so maybe it would be a good idea to make a list up of the good converter companies. I've used Ultimate and PTC. Lenny and Kenny are both great to deal with. Customer service from both of them is great.

The converter is five years old and has maybe 50 1/8 mile passes and I'd guess less than 3000 street miles on it. The 60' and mph started going away two years go, I've lost .3-.4 in the 1/8.

At first I thought it was a transmission problem. At cruise in high gear if it was matted the rpms would jump to 6000 then pull from there. So I built a new 727 over the winter, everything new. Put it in and the same thing as the old one on the street. Pulled the new trans and let a local shop take it apart and find where I had screwed up. I picked it up yesterday, they didn't find anything wrong.

So I don't want to spend the money to have this one freshened up and have the same problem start in three years. I'll spend the money on a good one this time.

Send yours to Lenny....that's what I did....picked up 5 mph and I have run it behind three different motors ranging from a 446-512. Works great behind all of them. I might be leaving a little on the table since the 499 in there now makes more steam..but..it runs the numbers..

Well I made some more calls today, talked to Lenny at ultimate, Kenny at PTC and to ATI. Honestly I felt like I was wasting the guy at ATI's time, he really wasn't interested in talking to me unless I was ready to buy. Everyone else including Craig at Coan Racing asked questions, answered all of mine and were very pleasant to talk to. Everyone recommended an 8" converter and the same stall speed. The Coan and Ultimate were only $100 apart and Kenny was about $400 cheaper.

I'll rub around on it for a few days then choose one and order.
