Layson and his "agents"

I've been called a lot of things in my day, most of them rhyme with Rick....some of them don't.

But I've never been called an "agent"...employee maybe....but not agent.

Rick, you can only choose being agent number 1 or number 2

Layson's got sued for making the 69 Formula S tail panel emblem, among other things.

Was curious about this and actually looked it up.... Check the original arrest warrant here: http://u225.torque.net/cars/SL6/docs/Layson_Warrant.pdf

Just to show the kind of POS that Dave Layson is: Regarding one of the undercover officers buying a part for evidence, "The total cost of the items was $116.00. Minck handed Layson $200. Layson gave Minck $4.00 in change."

Actually that is a search warrant, but never mind. That $4 change is a good one, but this has to be the best one of all:

Undercover officer "GROVE informed your AFFIANT (maker of affidavit) that NOS means Nitrious (sic) Oxcide (sic) Systems."

I know this is an old thread, but I just saw it. I'd like to correct a couple of things: 1)There is no "fee" to apply for a license from Mopar. We have been Mopar's agent since 2003 and have never charged a fee 2) Mopar makes very little money on this program. It is there primarily to preserve the integrity of Chrysler's intellectual property and to provide assurances to the consumer that products made under license are of good quality 3) You only have to obtain a license if you use Chrysler's intellectual property; as an example, emblems are typically a graphical representation of one of Chrysler's trademarks, and if so would typically need a license 4) Since we became the licensing agent for Mopar, the number of quality restoration products available for Mopar vehicles has increased tremendously. As an example, I personally flew to Taipei with Mark Headrick to put together the program that became AMD 5) All the guys that work the Mopar program are Mopar enthusiasts. I used to race a '64 Belvedere and have since restored a '71 Challenger convertible with a 440 Six Pack 6) Are all the parts that we've licensed 100 point show quality parts? No, they aren't. Most of them aren't intended to be, since you could rarely get anyone to tool them for the two guys who want them and are willing to pay the huge bucks it would take to get them done. Every single part is certified for fit and function. We try very hard to work with the licensees to make sure that the consumer knows what he/she is getting when they buy the piece 7) A lot of stuff that's out there isn't licensed. If it isn't licensed, we have no involvement or control over the part or it's quality. 8) Our licenses are tailored to meet the needs of the restoration community. We write licenses with smaller financial commitments than anyone in the licensing industry. I know that we write deals that are smaller than other car companies. FYI, I ran the GM licensing/restoration program before I founded my company. If there is a need for an obscure part that uses Chrysler's IP and there is someone that has the desire and ability to make that part, we will do everything in our power to put together a deal that will work for that party and for Chrysler.

I could go on forever, but let me close with this: this is a labor of love for me. I've been a Mopar guy since I was a kid, and I expect to die as one. If you need information about becoming licensed or about the licensing program, either call 248-922-9678 and ask for Jim Bur, Mike Rachuy, or me, Bob Horton (in that order would likely work best for you, as Jim is 100% Mopar and Mike is in the office more than me). If you want to drop an email, send it to mopar@trilicensing.com. That comes straight to me.

Thanks for listening,

Bob Horton

I agree that some of the parts are less than stellar quality or fit properly. I know I have had my share of fitment issues and stuff warping after I've installed it.

If you have specifics, please let me know. I'd be most happy to look into them.

The new oil filters recently announced are off a mile from originals.I cant believe those things got approval. They look like an off the shelf generic filter with a low quality effort at duplicating the Mopar logos.

And this is where the originals will always have a market regardless of price. However the repros look a mile better than a PH8A and would be acceptable for 98% of people. Sometimes the cost to make a repro dead nuts just cant be justified.

What you saw was released to the press before the product had gone through product approval, which is not supposed to happen and steps have been taken to ensure that it doesn't happen that way again. The pictures were of basically hand samples. Product is currently in the review process. I can assure you that many changes to what you saw are being required.

Ok, just off of the top of my head. Wheel lip opening moldings, I have never seen a repo fit like an original. I bought a repo electronic voltage regulator from my dealer no less, and all of the print was on a crooked decal instead of stamped, and there is no dimple that the originals had. Now all of this was licensed stuff.

Wheel lip moldings are a challenge. Even NOS ones often don't fit well.

Do you still have the regulator? We would have never approved a sticker job. If you have it, could you either post or PM me a picture of it, as well as let me know where you bought it? I'd like to run that one back to the source and find out how that happened. That's not acceptable.

Bob
