I've been told that letters following the part number are revisions...IOW, something was changed but not enough to warrant a whole new part number.

The “L” suffix in the part number stands for an interim part number.

Interesting input guys... Thanks! The interim part number sounds the most likely, maybe a "make-from" an earlier assembly. Being a Rev Letter sounds like a good idea until you realize no one has seen a "A", "B","C", Etc, only "L"s...
