any one know for sure the weight of a mopar flat head 6 1940 era,,,??? im having front coil springs made and car is apart so cant take it to weigh it,, I would like to compare the flat head 6 to a red ram 241 fro weight and go from there,,,thanks in advance,,

GENE, thanks for your input,,, reason im asking is im putting new coils in my 40 coupe, and didnt want to put a standard spring in if the rem ram was that much heavier,,, i guess ill stay with standard

Red Ram 241 - 270 580 lb. Source: http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Early_Hemi_engine_specificationsOn to the six cylinders: Slant 6, 475 lb. I believe as the Slant was intended to be made out of aluminum, which would save about 100 lb, that the 218 would weigh something more than 375 lb. My thinking, the designers of the "new Slant Six" would have wanted to make the new six lighter and more powerful than the old flathead. Also, a similar size Studebaker flathead six weighs in at 404 lb. I would guess the complete 218 would weigh right at 425 lb. Hows that for guesswork? R.

ur guess may be better then mine thats why im asking,,LOL ive seen guesses from 450 to 700 lbs,,,, trying to figure out if i need to go to a stiffer coil spring rate or not,,,thanks
