Is this the recalled woodgrain steering wheel? Thought the recall was in 66, but this wheel is in a 67.

That is a recall wheel and they were sold in 67, not 66

Yep that's a recall wheel, they were factory installed and then dealer removed from many 67's. The 66 wood wheels are similiar, but the spokes were solid on 66 wheels and split on 67's. If I remember right, the 67 spokes like to break off right at the hub, not good in an accident.

I got a nearly perfect one out of a 67 Valiant four door once.

No such thing as a 67 recall wheel....it's just an uncommon option.

What does the lens say inside the dash bezel? Is that factory installed and in the factory location?

Looks like a 4-speed reverse light that was also used in A-Bodies! There IS such a thing as a 67 recall wheel, they were available in A and B-Bodies. I have a couple of them and one came on an original 67 Dart GTS convertible.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

The light is for "BRAKES" on a '67 Coronet (below).

'67 Plymouth had the light higher up on the dash (below).

Where was it on a '67 Charger?

It's actually the brake warning lamp. '66 cars used a round lamp. This is the 66 style.

Cool. That makes at least four different lenses used with that bezel by my count.

What's the outside diameter of the round bezel? 1" or so?

So was it a "recall" or an early vs. late use due to a redesign?

Late? version above recast with insert?

Looks like 1.25", anybody know should the letters be white or black?
& my '66 Charger was like the '66 Mike posted ...
(jeweled red lens with "BRAKE ??" on the bezel?)

The car is on ebay, auction # 220317957678, and only at $2392 but has not met the reserve. Ad says it has less than 5,000 miles as it was a race car early in life and in storage for the past 20 years. Looks like a solid start.

Anyone know what "code" would have been ordered in 67 to get that steering wheel?

My understanding is it's a recall. Seen only a couple and they were always referred to as "THE RECALL WHEEL". I was told in the past it was recalled due to people getting their fingers stuck between the spokes while driving.

Ouch! Gotta be smarter than the steering wheel.

I think those skinny spokes might turn into daggers in a hard frontal impact.

We have gone over the part # 4016CTT 1967 A/B Body Wood wheel before. It was never recalled...just a RARE option.Look at the R/T in the auction....VIN WS23L71226971 with a MAY 11th SPD.If they had a recall on the so called death wheel don't you think it would have been by May ?????Again all it's a fairly uncommon (i hate to say rare ) steering wheel.I have the installation figures....67 Barracuda has the highest percentage with around 15% of the total barracudas built having the 4016CTT wheel. All the installation figures are in a wood wheel post on page 3 of the archives.

Oh ya the wheel's pictured above (with the solid spokes)are the 4016VTT woodwheel that was used in 64,65 and 66.It is 20 times more common than the one year 67 Wheel 4016CTT.

Yeah ok...so they brought out the 4016DTT wood wheel in 68 with SMALLER holes in the spokes...why? To make it tougher to get your finger out ?
