I have a 1976 Dodge W100 4X4 - I bought it on ebay and when it arrive I noticed it was missing the front drive line. I am currently having a driveline made but was seeing if anyone here knew what size bolts are used to connect the driveline to the transfer case. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know the size but it takes a 5/8 wrench. 7/16 or 1/2 corse thred maybe?? I know them when I see them.

I can scratch up 4 from the bolt bin in the shed if you need a set.

I have some u-joint straps/bolts also. those are a 1/4" x 28 fine thred. early model bolts used a 7/16 hex head/late model used a 3/8" hex head.

The tread is 7/16..14 threads per inch.. They are 1 1/4 long and like scratch said 5/8 head

Are they grade 8? I know a lot of driveline bolts are. I deal with driveshafts/pto's an hydraulics every day now. My new occupation since November. I built the one for the op....

Id get grade 8 no matter if they were or not. Should have asked on here for a front driveshaft. I have one. Pulled for somebody who backed out

Years ago, when I was a younger pup, I disassembled a lot of Mopars (parted many cars and trucks). I was in the habit of throwing all the nuts and bolts into a 5 gal bucket, then the 2nd 5 gal bucket, then the 3rd.....Somewhere around 5 buckets full of nuts and bolts, it occurred to me I probably wouldn't be able to find any specific nuts or bolts I was looking for, short of a miracle. Do you have any idea how many nuts and bolts it takes to fill a 5 gal bucket, or how much that bucket weighs when its full of nuts and bolts? I had 5 buckets full!

After 16 years of living at the same place, which was a house on an acre of ground with a 26' x 36' garage so full of parts you couldn't park a car in, we moved. I hauled 10 truck loads of Mopar parts to the new location before it was full. I scrapped 6,500 lbs of Mopar parts I had accumulated, that would not fit in those 10 truck loads. The 5 buckets of nuts and bolts were included in the scrap weight. That event took place around the year 2000. Since then, I have downsized two more times. At this point, the only Mopar nuts and bolts around here came off my last project, and there is only enough of them to cover the bottom of a hub cap.

I can tell you that buying new nuts and bolts, even wholesale by the pound, can add up pretty fast. I have a bolt bin here in my current, small, one man shop. I stock grade 5 hardware in 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16" and 1/2" bolts between 1" long and about 4" long, along with nuts, flat washers, lock washers, and lock nuts. I probably drop $30 to maintain that stock about every other month and that doesn't count all the grade 8 hardware or the longer or larger diameter bolts I might need.

A smart guy might have saved some of those buckets of bolts and sorted them out, but I can't stand sorting bolts even now. I guess if you're lazy like me, you pay the price.

BTW, the OEM factory bolts tend to hold up much better then even good aftermarket bolts. Aftermarket bolts made in the last 10 years seem to deteriorate much quicker then the OEM bolts do, least it seems that way to me. Gene

I hear ya. seems old used MOPAR bolts are just stronger/last longer.

I am slowly sorting my bolts out into sets and have a bucket or two to go. I try to give them out when someone needs/wants them so they dont go to scrap.

good project for rainy days and kinda like a puzzle or name that bolt game.

my buddys dont get it when we go junkyarding and I pick up a random bolt from a MOPAR and ID what it goes too. they quiz me on bolts now..
