had 1" taken off my indy sb intake so I can get everything under the hood. I have a 1 1/2" wilsons 4150-4500 adaptor that needs blending to intake. looks like intake carb pad is about 1/8" bigger than the opening in the bottom of the adaptor. not sure if wilsons has some science in the degree of taper in the adaptor. should I blend the adaptor flush with the intake or just leave it alone and run it?

I would call Wilson to get there advice.
Ray Barton told me blending an adpter to the intake was worth power.
But now you have shortened the plenum, plus with the short adapter. See what the experts say, it's their adp.
What fuel are running? The hard coat will be removed from adp.

This is what I did on this manifold... I pinned it
so its always in the same place with 1/8 roll pins

Do you need that 1/2"? You could try a cheap 2" adpt.
Or get another swap meet man and cut and weld the adp. to it and then blend it.
Your way may be best, you dont want to drastic of a change from adp to man. You can see how the Wilson adp is more sloped than a Moroso 2".
Call Wilson, I know they are busy now, but they are customer friendly.

Mike very nice. Do you have any before/after results?

OP is looking to gain hood clearance.

Being that the adapter is larger than the manifold
I wouldnt really worry

called wilsons and they told me to just take the sharp edge off the bottom of the adaptor opening. distribution will be unset some, but not enough to worry about.
been tryin to post a pic, but my images are now to large with new camera.

the dividers need to be cut back into the plenum also.

Why not fill the stud holes where the 4150 fits, and have someone re tap and thread holes where the 4500 studs would go.Brett did that on my 598 and it came out perfect.

Looks really good...I just did this on my 4150 intake for the 512RB to clear the SV1 throttle blade...

I used the adapter to mark up the intake and went to town...Its down at the shop for some final finishing, but with today's dual bolt pattern carbs, you will see more need for this...I can see future intakes having a spacer like a reversion plate that goes in to neck them down to a 4150 size and its a one size fits all intake....You would think manufacturers would have thought of that 20 years ago considering the cost of casting tooling..Obviously if you sell more of one intake as opposed to having to make two different one, it drastically lowers your production costs....

on small blocks between 600-700hp dominators on adaptors seem to work better than bolting the dom directly to the intake.

Same is true on most big blocks...But I cannot change my hood this year, and I was not going to pony up for a new intake when I already port matched this one...took me a week. So, pulling the undersized 950 off and going to a 1100cfm SV1, the answer was obvious, make it work. Bet mine still makes +20hp more than it did with the 950...Ad besides, since its matched to the tapered spacer, if there is room, I can still put that on...

yeah, that was my idea also, i'll just put a 1" spacer back on when I run the 950. I found a 16" moroso 1 3/4 dropbase aircleaner and it will now fit under my 6pak hood with a 4" filter in it.

Me personally, I have NEVER seen this to be the case on a small or a big block. Now, it might make more power with the adapter, BUT, it is not because of the adapter, it is because the adapter adds plenum volume in most cases. You could accomplish the same thing by having your manifold fixed for a Dominator and then just using a nice spacer under the carb. Work just as well AND gain a little more hood clearance, as a 1" spacer is probably all you would need.

ok, I don't have any hard facts what works best, but I contacted dan davinci and wilsons before I had the intake cut and they recommended the adaptor on my combo. smaller cube motors like mine with dominators need something to speed the air flow up and modifying the intake with 4500 pad tends to open it up and slow flow. aleast that's what I was told. with big rpm,hp or cubic inches it may work great with dom mounted directly to intake.
