You realize that there are no 383 10:1 factory or factory like replacement pistons available. If it is a flat top it is probably 9:1 at best.
If they are the flat top pistons with no valve reliefs, you may be limited to pretty mild cams due to valve to piston clearance?
I would use a mild cam like the Lunati Voodoo 262/268 (60302LK.) This is 220/226 @ 0.050 duration and 0.475"/0.494" lift. It uses the 3-bolt timing gear. The Comp XE262H is about the same, but uses a single bolt timing gear. It is also slightly milider. 262/270 advertised duration, 218/224 @ 0.050" duration, 0.462"/0.470" lift.

I started with a Scott Brown cam in my engine a few years ago..due to all the rave reviews on this site. It worked well...the following year I tried a Hughes cam that was similar in specs . I talked to Hughes on the phone and we agreed on one of their "shelf" cams, a flat tappet that should work nice with my combo. The car picked up a TENTH . Ill stick with Hughes cams thank you Mopar company that designs Mopar cams = works for me

I always picked my own cams as I felt I had pretty good knowledge of camshafts after being a tech all my life. But when I built this pump gas 493 I wanted a nice solid flat tappet cam as I drive it on the street 99% of the time and wanted one made to work well with my combo as I also knew I was going to race it capped up. So I went to Dwayne Porter as every car I see with his cams in them run great ! And I am 100% pleased. And he is a very nice guy to work with that has good fair prices. The car more then met my goal of running 10's on pump thru the pipes and I thank him very much for grinding me a good cam. He is one of the smartest guys I have ever talked to and his work shows it. If you would decide to call him anytime just let me know as I have his phone#. You cant go wrong talking to a pro about your cam as the guys who grind the cams are pro's who do that work every day. Good luck which ever cam you use. Ron

I run that Voodoo in my 10.1 68 383, stock carb stock intake and exh manifolds that have been port matched and "worked" 915 heads. the cam is great a lot of low end and pulls extremely hard all the way up to 5,500, i really was surprised by this cam! it gives me 17" of vacuum at about 850 900rpm in neutral "4-speed". i also have power brakes.

That sounds like a nice combo. Do you know what it runs? How many cars you got?
