Not sure if I love it or hate it, but the original color of my 71 Charger SE is EL5. Trying to decide weather or not to restore as original or detour to another, more consistantly pleasant color. Wifey hates it, I like the few examples i've seen online, and others that perhaps painted wrongly or photographed in poor light.

My previous Road Runner was FY1, and I learned after the fact, We should have painted the car White first... Any similar advice regarding the EL5?

Any thoughts, experiences & Good (Convince Me)Photos will be welcomed.

Thanks

My first car (71 dart) was EL5. The paint was shot, but I buffed it back out and got it to look ok again. The only thing that saved it was the fact that the car had a black vinyl top and blacked out rockers. I didn't mind it, but would have traded it for a lemon twist yellow one in a heart beat.

There is a couple EL5 71 superbees in here.

If you want to see what it looks like go to the paint store and have a pint made then have them spray out a test sample.

Since the wifey has to love the color of the subject of your hobby, I recommend asking her opinions of colors vehicles in the parking lots while out and about. Is she into blues or reds or earth tones? Stuff like that. Only then will you have success at pleasing her visual requirements on a acceptable color for your hobby. Sorry, but that's how it is.

It can be a nice color combo, usually seems better off being accented with black stripes, hood blackout, black vinyl, etc.......buttersnatch with white kinda looks like a pussed out whitehead, or a oozing twinke

seeing it's on a charger, your only choice, if doing a factory style resto, would be black stripes, a hood blackout treatment would also help break up the color and accent it

If butterscotch and Bahama yellow are the same, here is mine. I painted it in my garage and found it to be much easier to do than a metallic. The black stripes really make it, as far as I'm concerned.

I have attached a few photos of my car in different light and one parked next to a FY1 Demon.

The guy who did the paint and body on "The Cuda Guy" project was Tony Miller of L.A. Miller Restorations FT Jennings OH.

I know he used a factory EL5 car he had sitting to match his paint formula for the paint on my car.

Tony's member name on cuda-challenger.com is fishin4cuda, I think he is a member here as well ? Hope this and these photos help convince you to stay with the EL5. I think its the best color Mopar made Good luck bro.

I would keep it EL5, but it seems to be a love it or hate it type color. Not quite high impact, yet a bit more intriguing than many other colors. As mentioned, black stripes and a vinyl top really help the color IMO.

The one issue this color seems to have (along with GY8(?) gold) is it looks great in bright sunlight, but can be less appealling when it's cloudy.

When painted correctly, it is one of the coolest Mopar colors available.

Thanks to all who took the time to answer on this post - I've all but eliminated the EL5, and narrowed it down to a Y1, B5('70), A4('71)... I already have a High Impact Red Bee.

I guess pics online don't do Much justice in picking colors accurately;Check out 2 pics of FY1 71 Charger , Note contrasts...
