The 255/70/15's on my RC are almost if not the same height as the 275/60/17's on my SS/T

the 70 series to the 60 series should be an inch shorter. really just depends on the manufacturer

Yeah, saw the 2wd AFTER I posted. My bad.

These are a pretty tall tire, but they are what I had to work with.
I would have liked to go lower, but this one is going to have to earn it's keep, some hauling is in its future ...not going to get much beyond this, probably not even paint.

He's running 20"s in it. Simple to get that low. Dakota drop spindle and van lower arms in front or Dakota drop spindle and cut coils. rear is axle flip notch and hanger flip and drop shackle. He has a lowering block. I plan to use a front hanger in the rear with a drop shackle.

I won't need 35series tires. 55/60 should be fine. Waiting to see what sizes people are running to get an idea what the look like. 30" tire is a little taller than I want.

VL21 I like your ride That is my idea of what a working truck should look like. At the moment I am running 245/75R16s on aftermarket rims on my '87. I could see some 17s in its future after I replace the cut coils and shocks on the front. Mine has to work for a living, too.

Mine has 17's. BTW you won't really be able to drive that truck sitting that low. Mine is about as low as practical for any sort of daily driving and I still have to be careful were I go. But I'm sure you know more then I do! Josh-

The kid with the blue truck says he drove it all over. I do want it that low but my driveway I don't thing Will allow for one but Im tossing around the idea of the bags that go inside the coils and the helper bags for the rear for a few years and later on when my Fabrication skills are better doing an actual air ride. I drove my clubcab daily with it sitting on re bumostop brackets. The front hub was 13" from the fender lip. I had to jack it up to jack it up lol. If it always hits it'll get raised up some. Lets see some pics of your truck. Yours is the 2tone brown and tan isn't it? What size tires?

I agree with the others, very nice truck!

The front crossmember will likely be your limiting factor as far as lowering it. I had an '80 years ago that would touch that crossmember on the freeway when I hit a soft dip at speed. There are also issues with some trucks having an unusually low bracket near the fuel tank and the parking brake yoke hangs down on some.

I'll be running an in bed fuel cell most likely and won't need the E-brake stuff. I've never had to ie my e-brake.

Remember I drive this truck all the time in the summer. I drive it to work just about everyday. My bigiest problem is the dropped lower control arms. I have the fabricated arms not the van arms. They are close to the ground see picture. They drag on aprons going in and out of parking lots. The front sub frame is almost as low, may an 1/2 inch higher then the lowest point on the lower control arms. I also have the Dakota spindles. With the stock front springs. If I hit a bump at speed say 40mph and above the front will jounce and it shoves the drivers side front tire up until it contact the inner wheel well. I'm looking at a heavier front springs to resolve this issue. But then the front will sit a little higher. I could take out the inner well wheels but then you get road grime all over the engine compartment. It seems to be a balance between looks, and drivability. I want it low, but I also want to be able to drive it with out it bottoming out all the time. Yea you could bag one, sure. But I like to to have a the same low stance at rest or at speed.

You might want to research "scrub line" for your state. Could be in for a hefty fine. Very clean looking work though.

I've never researched scrub line. But it would not pass a NSRA (National Street Rod Assoc.) inspection. Here in Michigan esp here in SE Michigan, even though it might not be "Legal" I don't see ever getting pulled over for it. The police here won't even come to a accident scene unless there is an injury. They wouldn't even come to the accident scene when my wife was involved in a fender bender caused by a 19 yr kid with no license and no insurance a month ago.

Im aware of the issues I face with it being lowered. Banging it doesn't mean you have to lift it to drive. You could air up for drive approaches and speed bumps than drop her back down. This kid just z'd his front 3" He drove the truck static dropped on factory Ram 20" Steelies. Im planning to run the fabbed arms and Dakota drop spindles.

What size tires do you guys have?

I'll mention once again mine is as low as practical with Fabbed lower control arms and dakota spindles. The control arms just sit to low, did you not see the picture I posted? It's less then a 1 1/2" of clearance and that's after I raised it back up a 1/2 inch. Course I've done the work, I drive the truck, some people just talk.. What do I know. Josh-

Josh-

That truck would not be street legal here in Wa. NO part of the chassis, exhaust ect can be lower than the 4 lowest points of the rims .

I am truckless..

Tire height affects how low to the ground you are too. Im setting my guideline for my tires to be 27" Tall plus I dont want rubberband tires. Im also considering Z'ing the frame in front but will need to figure out steering aswell if that's done. If the law becomes an issue it will be raised back up.

JSTollfu

The pic of the right side is clearer, and it reminds me how envious I am of your tie rod angle ... mine with just a cut Chevy coil is much worse.

I think I remember you flipped yours, that may be in my future too, and I am not nearly as low as you are.

It takes gasoline to interest me.

Even if that truck in the pic had 40" tall tires it still would be illegal..

Yeah I wasn't referring to your replies.

In other words scrub line as I mentioned before.;)

Also, tire height and rim size have nothing to do with scrub line. Only sidewall height affects scrub line.

The rim being a Larger Diameter make it "hang" lower in turn Lifting the vehicle depending on tire size.
When I said Tire size affects Height nowhere did I mention scrub line I simply said it would change the height of the vehicle. shorter tires drop it Closer to the ground and Taller tires lift it away from the ground.

This thread was simply to see 17" rims with different tire sizes to get a feel for what the will look like Not about laws or who knows what.

Thanks to those who posted their trucks and stated tire sizes. Much appreciated!

My "Scrub line" comments were directed at jstollfu's pics and were intended to be informative, not derogatory.

I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong. I was trying to do too many things at once and got some words in the wrong place. This should say, " Overall tire height and sidewall height have nothing to do with scrub line. Rim size affects scrub line". As you pointed out.

You did in fact broach the subject of "raising it up if it's too low". I took that to be a reference to legality. My apologies.

Sounds like a 255/50-17 would be about the ideal size for what you want.

Sorry wasn't trying to be an Azz when I posted that. I appreciate everyone's Knowledge but when people just post to post it gets annoying especially when they aren't informative.
I mentions raising Mine if it happens to be too low but I honestly doubt it will be for me. In a few years it will either get Z'd or a Dakota Stub. The Kid with the blue truck I posted is pie cutting some uppers for me to give a better balljoint angle.
Much Respect Cheeto
