Hi everyone first time posting here, but have used the site many times for help in the past.I'm restoring my 69 GTX that I bought when I was 15 years old.I tore the car down back in 1990 to due a full rotisori(sp) and got side tracked on other cars, life, kids, wife, ect, and now I'm back on track.Recently in one of the car magazines there was a decent article on 440 detailing.I can't remember which mag it was in.Hemmings muscle or maybe Musclecar enthusiast? I'm not sure.If anyone knows what I'm talking about I'm tying to track it down.I'm in the middle of detailing my engine and it would help a alot instead of asking tons of questions here. For anyone that wants to know the car is Y2 with black top and guts 440 auto with air.
Thanks in advance. Joe

I've got a question. Where do you buy the Acrylic Enamel paint for the engine. I have use the Mopar spray paint and Bill Hirsh Hemi orange and neither look like that. It is more red then orange to me. The stuff I have is more Orange and don't shine. I am getting ready to start on a 440 for a friends 70 GTX and his 70 Superbee 440 6 pak and would like to use a paint with a shine atleast. I have thought about using the Bill Hirsh and clearing it but it still doesn't look like the same color.

I don't think the off the assembly line engine paint did not have much gloss to it. The MP Restoration Paint was a very good match, but they discoutinued it.

Earlier this year I used some Mopar engine paint that comes in a white can with black writing. That stuff really stinks, not like regular spray paint. I ran out and used some of the Bill Hirsh I have in a quart, I used it in a touch up gun. It matches the spray can paint but I don't care for the dull orange color.

They did? The new stuff? It's only been out a year or two, are you sure?

I just bought a couple cans of it a week ago. Seems to spray out alot better then the old style cans that got clogged up really easy.

Here are my findings...

P4349216 The original "street Hemi Orange" This paint has been around sence the beginning of time and from the very beginning it has been the wrong color. The problem is because it has been around for so long everybody thinks it is correct. The color is very light and very pail in color.

P5007733 The new "Hemi Restoration Orange" This color was VERY close in being correct. I believe it was the best that I have seen that came out of a rattle can. I matched it to Rodger Gibson paint and it was dead on. With that being said.....that paint has been canceled and is no longer avaliable.

P4349216AB This is the new "Street Hemi Orange" It's made by a new vendor and sprays very nice. As for the color.....they took a step in the wrong direction. Too light and too much orange.

Here are some pictures to show you all what I have found.

....there is nothing like driving my 1968 Hemi Dart around town and having people looking at you like you're nuts!!

I'm sorry but the pictures are hard to see but here is a comparison between the Hemi Restoration and the Rodger Gibson paint. The paint on the engine is the Mopar Hemi Restoration paint and that paint has been discontinued....no longer avaliable......gone.....NS1......have a nice day.....

I somehow managed to get about 4 of the last cans of MP "hemi restoration orange" and used it on my engine. I should thank Scott at Harms for the recommendation for this color. It is slightly dull but I like the look. BTW the carbs were also restored by Harms...NICE! Thanks Scott, great service!

Couldn't someone just take the most correct paint sample to the paint store and have it duplicated? If the paint code was posted for all to see, then we wouldn't have this problem anymore.

I have a pint of Dupont Deluxe "440 orange" that I got from Roger Gibson several years ago. Never used it. I should spray a test pattern oneday and have it read into a new formula.

Couldn't you just use the "manerine orange" formula and add a touch of flattener?
