The odd-ball Dana 53 also had a 9.25" ring gear, but it was completely different than the common, Mopar 9.25" rear.

I've owned 5 73 Duster 340's since 1973. One I bought off a Mopar dealership new,2 I bought with 10,000 mile so or less. The others were from private individuals. The weird thing about it is all of them had 81/4 suregrip rearends. I've read that somewhere in early production of the 73's Mother mopar replaced the 83/4 rearends with 81/4 rearends. I also might ad that on the new one I had there was a recall on the rearends. The small bolt the holds the shaft in place. Had the tenaancy to loosen up.The shaft would slide out. Caused quite a mess if you were going driving on highway. Mine fell out in a parking lot and the rearend locked up.The dealer took it in and replaced some gears, bolt and shaft. And did something to correct the problem. does anyone have any information on this?

A-body 8 3/4" rears were discontinued after the 1972 model year. The factory never made one with 5 x 4 1/2" bolt pattern.

Thanks for the clarification
