i'v tried this on a chassis dyno once. removed a 14x3 k&n and lost 2hp. put it on and gained it back.

have you tried both intakes on same combo? curious which worked better. the dominator adaptor is my problem on my indy intake. I will have to shave 1" off carb flange, sounds like it wont hurt a thing?

I run a normal round 14x3" air cleaner on my car 24x7. Its not any faster with it off.

I only tried with it off as I had a friend who harassed me that I was leaving e/t on the table...it was hillarious that the car slowed down instead when I tried though, he had nothing to say at that point lol

Ya ok did you tune the carb with the air cleaner on?if so shoulda tried rejetting it when you pulled it off ive never had a combo run slower and ive been doing this for 29yrs.maybe you have some type of turbulence issue with the hood your using then the air cleaner might help straighten it out and your using a very large breather but in my experience ive see usually a tenth to 2tenths when off especially when using a drop base style.i think there was only one experience when i seen no difference when i pulled the cleaner off but then again ive never been fortunate enough to run such a tall breather on any of my combos.

I guarantee he didnt rejet.... ALL air cleaners have
some sort of restriction .. even the very best...
I flowed so damn many air cleaners at work it was
sickening... every type out there

i bet you didnt rejet either........
ok why dont all these engine builders out there use air cleaners when they are dynoing motors if it gonna make more power?in certain competitions its actually a restriction when told they have to run air cleaners and mufflers......so in theory motors should make more power with mufflers then too

Never got a chance to do any real comparison. We ran the Indy intake on our first set of cnc ported W5's, the second set came with the Ebrock intake. only ran it a couple passes and the lower end decided it was done playing.

According to the plugs the car was already running a tad rich before I pulled the air cleaner, so I shouldn't have had to jet up much. Did I try jetting up with it off? Nope, I didn't, and that is because I am a firm believer in getting clean air into my engine...I'll lose a tenth or two (or in my case slow down a tenth) to keep only clean air in my engine....I've heard of WAY too many scenarios that went sour with an air cleaner off and LOTS of people who gained or lost nothing without an air cleaner compared to with one for me to run without it all the time.

Just my personal preference

FWIW...Patrick James at Pro Systems told me if the car does NOT run faster w/ the air cleaner removed, then the mixture is off. It SHOULD be faster w/ no air cleaner.

Unless you're having some sort of air turbulence issue at speed which is very possible. An air cleaner can help w/ that.

I don't run one at the track b/c I can only fit a small diameter air cleaner w/ a short filter on mine...just use it on the street. It's like 9"x2" or something like that.
