The allure of street racing, is being able to get that kind of power to go down a street. Seldom does the fastest "track prepared" car win a race on the street, because the conditions are WORLDS apart.

As far as "trailering" to a street race. This has been done by "serious" street racers for years. Real street racers don't care if you think their car is a "street car" or not and they make no illusions as such. Their ONE goal is to beat you and take your money. Also "driving" a serious street race car to a race is ASKING for trouble from the law. If the law rolls up and a car is on or in a trailer, what are they going to cite you for? Unlawful assy is about it........However, if you "drove" the car there, expect possible citations for obstructed vision, bumper height, tires, exhaust, safety items, etc. If they WANT to, they will go over the car with a fine tooth comb and cite you for everything they can. They are not stupid, they KNOW why you are there, so don't give them an EASY way to write you a boat load of tickets.

As for the Drag Week guys.....a 6.0 cert chassis, with struts, 4-link and hull of a body draped over it, is the same parts if you are racing it on the track, or driving it on the street. Larsons car gets brought up. It is the SAME car as any Pro-Mod, is just has a steel body instead of composite and more creature comforts, but is constructed the same. Dave Ahokas' car IS an ex Pro-Mod car. It belonged to Robert Mathis and was an ADRL Pro Nitrous car. The chassis and body is not what makes these cars streetable, it is the powerplant and the reason that turbo cars are an easy choice for Drag Week. You can detune a turbo motor to drive down the road like moms mini van, since they are not high compression motors with huge cams. But turn the wick up and throw the boost at it and you have a monster when you need it.

The reason that most serious street racers are nitrous cars, is that a nitrous car is hard to beat on the street, because most races are 1/8 mile and the turbo cars don't have a chance to get really cranking in that distance.

Jeff Lutz told me himself that Dave's truck will be VERY hard to beat on the street with a turbo car. It's because the truck leaves so hard and that turbo guys can't get on the boost that quick on the street without knocking the tires off.

Maybe Todd and Travis need to make an OKC trip.

Not unless they got some "BIG" tires on that thing now.........LOL!!!

Again, what most cars run at the TRACK.....especially "small" tire cars, don't mean doodley squat on the street. Chad asked me about taking the "Buick" out there. It runs 4.30s on the track. he asked how I thought we would do. I told him we would probably get embarrassed or put it in the ditch.........LOL!!!

So why were the OKC guys complaining about the guy from Chicago bringing out his 'Pro-Mod' to race them? I don't rememeber where I saw it, probably on the Bullet.
It seems to me that their claim is that their cars are the fastest in the nation under their rules.
Before you go on attack mode, it is just an observation and a question.

Ok, I get what your saying, so the drag week are track cars... but the guys on the show to me still don't own street cars to me, maybe "street racing cars", would be better wording.

Now I could go on about racing on the street and so on... but no real point to it. I guess if they all raced at the track, it wouldn't be very exciting for a tv show.

To be PURELY TECH CORRECT ... they are street-raced "TEST hitted" cars ....that are eventually "raced" in a closed course ... that is well lit with good parking, porta-johns and BBQ's ....

So, they DON'T race on the street? It's not ANY different than the track? I think they deserve a bit more credit than you are giving them. Just saying.

Tuff's car is far from a pro-mod........I think it was just talk, since the car runs on alky, has no cooling system and has a blower hanging out of the hood. They even sent a tow vehicle down for it after the hit. The OKC guys were more complaining about the Chicago guys "prepping" the street, not so much the car.

Dave knows how fast his truck is and knows what kind of runs he can make on the street. Not many cars out there he is going to be scared of racing on the street. Hell, at the PRI show, he was challenging Steve Jackson to bring his Pro-Mod out on the street and telling Steve he would gap him..........LOL!!!

And heeeeeeres DOC, with the same old tired crap. YES doc, it is a controlled environment. We get it, we know, nobody is arguing. But here is what it is NOT.....a prepped RACE TRACK. And before you tell me that you like the show, I know that, you have said that a hundred times as well. How about just find something NEW to complain about.

Ok, so you said "closed course", which generally implies race track. Now I don't know EXACTLY where they race during the show, but it is quite obvious it is NOT a race track. At least I haven't seen too many two lane race tracks without out a guardrail in site, pits, bleachers, starting line, finish line, etc. Appears to me the film crew sets up on some desolate stretch of road, an industrial complex, airport, etc. On one episode, thought I saw train tracks in the distance. Now if you just GOTTA KNOW exactly where it is, I will find out for you.........LOL!!!

I knew you were itching to know Doc.......so I texted one of the guys. He said they have TWO sites where the actual races go down. BOTH are out of the way State Hwys that they shut down during filming. So there is your "closed course" a State highway.....LOL!!!

Makes sense because one episode they found a location, then come race time they weren't at the new found location.

Like I said before, they need to lose some of the fake made up stuff... that's the part that drives me nuts, otherwise I think it's a good show.

At first I was pretty skeptical, and a bit cynical, about the show; but accepting it as entertainment and not obsessing too much over the details, I've come to enjoy the show. I like Chief's narration - "cascade of butt-hurt" still has me laughing - and the only thing that really makes me wince is some of the Foley (aka sound-effects) edited in at the top end of nearly every race.

This show is 10 times better than it was last year so if they keep tweaking it in the right direction it can only get better. Be patient guys. Remember the filming crew and producers are doing a show that they probably knew nothing about when the filming first started.

I would guess that with all of the filming and test hits their street may be more like a "prepped track" than one might think..
