Was a key-in buzzer standard equipment on all 70 challengers? Checking the wiring on my car I see a relay of sorts on the right side bottom corner of the dash. It has wiring intact. Near the steering column I have a plug with a red and a black wire and a lone yellow plug. There is nothing plugged into either. Am I missing something, if so could someone let me know what it is? May be related or not but looking at the steering column there is a yellow lead coming down from the upper part of the column. Is it safe to asume they go together as part of the buzzer system? thanks

Not sure why you can't see/open Barry's (Alaskan TA) pic but it should appear below here;

Here is more info from Barry's site showing the key in ignition buzzer was standard equipment. The headlamps on buzzer was an option (as part of the light package). Perhaps what you are seeing is related to that?

Any other info, had no idea the key buzzer was standard.
Mine has never worked, anyone have pics or description of where buzzer is?

My '70 has the buzzer. I liked it but it developed a fault. I believe the relay has a diode to prevent backfeed of current to the rest of the electrical system with key off. Anyhow, it failed and it was passing a small current back to the EFI ECU. The ECU didn't know if it was off or on and went to fault mode. No start. Once I figured this out the buzzer was disconnected. Starting is more important than the buzzer. On an OE system, a fault like that would probably drain the battery.

The buzzer is located on the fuse box as I recall and mine gave trouble too in the pink car.

Actually in 70 the buzzer was way over by the glovebox...Sheldon, The horn relay was attached to the fusebox mabe that's what was giving you trouble... Anyhow, here's the highly used moparts locating pic..

2 more questions:

- just plug in the buzzer and it should work, nothing to do on the column?
- anyone find a substitute buzzer? I'm guessing it's hard to find an original?

As long as the column buzzer switch is intact it should work after it's plugged in...It's the small red/black wire set coming out of the column... Make sure the {key-in buzzer}case has a good ground to the dash frame...Post what you find and I'll help troubleshoot the system if you need help..

The buzzer is'nt hard to find there's more out there than you would think seeing how every car got one...

Here's a long winded thread from a while back with some great info about the dash wiring... LINK

... Not related...I'm betting you have the A01 light package and the yellow wire is the key switch illumination wire...check out the link I've posted above it shows the Ao1 wiring and the time delay harness that's needed for your yellow wire...Hopefully it's under the dash and simply unhooked..

Parts book lists 2 numbers for 1970;

#3420884 - A & E body, Chrysler & Imperial C body
#3420885 - B body, Plymouth & Dodge C body

3420884 on ebay; http://www.ebay.com/dsc/i.html?_from=R40...p;_odkw=3420884

3420884 Google/other sources; https://www.google.ca/#q=3420884+mopar&undefined=undefined

3420885 looks to be the same buzzer with a different mounting bracket. Perhaps it would work?

This buzzer wiring is not part of the main column harness? Just replaced my TS switch and don't recall a seperate harness?

Thanks for the info

Thank you for the link. It helps understand the wiring diagrams better. My question is about the red and black "T" connector and the yellow wire with a round female connector. If i don't have headlight delay is anything supposed to be connected to these two plugs? One more question there is a yellow wire with a flat male connector coming down from the steering column. What is it for? Thanks for the help

Yes, sorry I've been working on too many vehicles lately and had a brain cramp...it is in fact part of the starter and ignition switch harness...it's the two red wires on the end of the flat connector...You could run a jumper between those two red wires to bypass the key switch as a test...And if all else fails tap the buzzer... ..No kidding some will come to life by doing that..

Dan, here's a pic of the time delay harness with the round connector...Does your yellow wire with the round connector look like it would plug into the highlighted connector in the pic ??? Yes it would get connected without the headlight delay..

Yellow wire with flat male connector is for ignition light. There is a unique optical tube that sheds light onto the key.

It's a 1 year only piece but should have a round connector...Don't feel bad I get confused also when you don't deal with the wiring every day..And to be honest the yellow wire with the flat connector has me drawing a blank without more info.. ..My guess is someone hacked off the column connector for the key switch light and replaced it with a flat connector and the delay harness is still intact with the round connector...

Here's a pic of the 70 key switch illumination with the wiring connector...Connects to the highlighted connector in my previous post...At that point I was trying to determine wether Dan has the time delay harness in his wiring or if it's missing...
