So I go to my "interview" yesterday at Outlaw Classics and Exotic Motorcars in Vegas because as his add stated "Do like the sound of American muscle cars and love squeezing every ounce of power out of em".............then this job is for you. Yes and yes were my answers...............so we meet, he shows me around and come to find out all he really does is rewire em, adds a few billet accessories and throws Holley 670 avenger carbs on where q-jets etc. were from the factory. REALLY............ I said the power`s in the top end, heads cam etc. then he says "we`re not zoned or allowed to do that work here"............WHAT? After that scenario and the insults on what he feels I`m worth money wise I had to leave and have a cold and chill............. After working for myself most of my life it`s a real eye opener to sit in front of someone knowing I probably know way more than him about "Performance" than he ever will. So the search goes on...........

Just look at some of the 'talent' West Coast Customs has. And people/celebs pay huge dollars for their junk.
An association of men who will not quarrel with one another is a thing which has never yet existed, from the greatest confederacy of nations down to a town meeting or a vestry.

Hey Dom,that sucks,,kinda strange, not "zoned for that kind of work",so a automotive shop is limited to 1 hour bolt on jobs in his complex?,haha..sounds like he wouldn't know how to squeeze every ounce of power out anyway. Too bad you couldn't have taken him for a spin in the Dart, scared him straight. Whatever happened with Counting Cars guy?

I went through a similar thing about a year ago at a reputable chassis shop in my area for a CAD designer and waterjet programmer. I'm not going to bash anyone by naming names. On the interview they said how impressed they were by my mechanical background and CAD experience, toured the place and was offered the job. They asked what kind of money I was looking for and would call me. When they did call they offered me $16 and hour no bennies. They said this is the top rate for this position because thats what they pay kids right out of high school they hire. WOW!talk about insulting. It sound's like they have a revolving door for that position, I guess they get what they pay for.
Wasn`t bashing in my opinion just stating my personal experience FWIW.
I didn't mean it to sound like I said I was bashing you. I just didn't want to offend anyone on here if they have any association with the place. Again, sorry of it sounded like that.

OMG, I've seen their cars at other local shops trying to repair the hack work.
Stuff that won't function, bondo buckets, orange peel... One green 68? Charger had the vent window broken because the automatic door didn't work.

I don`t have the capital and am not too good at the "business" side of this. I have a friend who`s retiring soon and want`s to do just what we love............ I`m surviving but really want to do muscle car hot rod stuff and will keep fighting to see that it happens.

Dom do you have a place to work. If you do put an ad on Craig's list. Something like "tired of your muscle car getting sand spun in its face. Want to feel its full potential" call Dom your muscle car medic. Go to any performance car club meetings in your area with card advertising your wares. There are a lot more cannots than cans when it comes to tuning and working on performance automobiles. Work this angle till you can get a small shop off the ground. In the 60 and 70 there were little speed shops that did what you are talking about along with buying and trading speed equipment and selling parts out of the local warehouses. Do not limit yourself to one car manufacturer. Work on mopar gm and ford. Just specialize on the old stuff. Good luck.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.
