I was told that a 8 1/4,3.55 sure grip center chunk from a 1st gen Dakota is the same as the 8 1/4 center chunk from my 77 Road Runner. Is this true?

They changed the spine of the axle some time in 1995 or 1996. If its before that cut-off, it will work but you may have to change the bearings. I have a Sure-Grip from a Van in my Duster's 8.25 but we had to change the carrier bearings and grind the case a little, but it fit.
