I recently came across a road runner that hasnt been started in 8 to 10 years . Its forsale . So i tell the gentleman i would like to try to get the car started , he says no problem he will throw a battery in it and see if it will start. I plead with him that would be the worst thing to do . I told him i would pulll the plugs out oil the cylinders and pull the sending unit out and turn the motor by hand to get oil circulating .Or i could pull the oil pump shaft out and spin the pump.I talked to him today . He said he put a battery in it and it spun over for howlong no problem !! da that wasnt the issue . hHe talked to his chrysler dealer where he buys his cars they said no problem throw a battery in it and go for it realy ! Now he thinks i was lying to him ! Am i wrong here?

different schools of thought on this! i would have done what he did and did do with my car but that was because i was sure of the condition when i last used it. i am now ready for !

Ideally, it would be nice to pull distrib and prime the thing, but it's his car and property, maybe he doesn't want people fooling with things at his place and he also could have did the prime thing himself and got it running before you got there. And the gas situation may be another problem, so maybe he's looking for some body that will take the thing as it is, gamble as it may be. Engine condition is the last thing I worry about when buying stuff. But that's me.

Yes I would have wanted to change the oil/filter/preoil/oil the cyls. He might be aggravated at all the lookey loos he's had to deal with down the line which I understand (especially after dealing with CL ). I would have turned the crank with a 1&1/4" socket/ breaker bar & if it turned then I'd be OK with it. It's a moot point now & not sure why he's getting PO cuz you certainly did not lie you just wanted to take precautions. He might just be a hard case & wants you to close the deal. If he gets too nasty he'll end up queering the deal & running you off. Get it home/prep it/fire it up/post some pics . I'm assuming it was not started so you're still in good shape & you can now do the prep you wanted to & no damage to speak of was done just by it being cranked over assuming there is no rust in the cyls.
