Well the list of things I said I would never do just got shorter tonight as I removed my trusted 750 pump gas holly and bolted on an 850 alcohol carb. Matts been running alcohol for 2-3 years and has been trying to convert me over but I was way to stubborn for that, until tonight. In the back of my mind I knew it was going to happen as I bought a toilet system for when the Daytona makes its return. I am on way to tight a budget to pay over 10 dollars for race gas so it was only a matter of time. This frees me up to really push next years small block build. I now know that a set of Edelbrock heads flowing 243 stock can flow over 318cfm with a 2.08 valve and am about positive 330cfm is reachable. So next years build will scrap this years 550 lift solid cam for a roller and this years 11.1 compression for much higher, and a super Victor which I hate to a modified Indy intake. Going to borrow 5 gallon of alcohol to fire it up tomorrow and pick up a 55 gallon barrel for the rest of the season. It should be a FUN Winter.

John, I switched 3 years ago because of the cost of race fuel. I think I paid 160 for my last barrel. That's roughly $3 a gallon and I do not use 2x as much. I do use about 1 gallon per run and with gas I was around 3/4 of a gallon. I will see you this weekend at the Halloween race

The guy I bought the barrel from adds lube to it before we buy it and I put a short exhaust system with turn-outs on it today. it sure seems responsive.

check your water temp gain down track as a clue on jetting, plumb a lean out valve in to help warm it up, getting the idle lean enough to not milk the oil and still come up on the chip is somewhat trial and error(for me anyway)

and dont just start it to hear it, when you pull the valve covers off after it cools looks like it rained in there

good luck
