I am wondering what would be the max lift and duration for a mildy ported w2 head? Another question of mine besides that which is more of a pet peve but how is some of these people going 10's with a small cam like .520-.560 lift and 250-260 duration? Also with eddy heads or j/x heads. Normally not w2's. This is for small blocks only! As far as cam styles both solid flat tappet and solid roller. From what I've seen it was always solid flat tappet cams with the low lifts putting up the good numbers. Me personaly I'm looking to use a solid roller cam.

Anyone know what the best valve opening lift is on a set of box stock w2's and plus .030-.080 on top of that for a cam?
What's your current piston to valve clearnace ?

Maybe he means for the roller lifters that need rebuilt every so often. We all know roller equipped parts are more money but it's the way to go!
The solid roller lifters in my SB have over 8000 street miles on them and appox 60 passes on them, they have never been rebuilt. Check them at 5000 miles and they looked like new.

So let me get this straight and see if we are all on the same page. If I take my lightly touched up w2 heads. Use a small .520-.550 solid cam. My m1 intake manifold thats been touched up. Between 10:1-11:1 cr. Correct carb, headers, ect. With the right 8" converter, gear, and chassis. @ 2800 lbs it should go well into the 10's with around 360 cubes?!
My 360 that made 529HP on our dyno, pushed my 3120lb car (3320 with me) to 10.70's all day. W2 heads that I ported flowed 280cfm at .500 lift, 250-258 solid FT cam, victor intake, 950HP carb, 11.5:1 compression (mixed pump and race gas 50/50). I also had KB 107's, stock rods, stock crank, filled block, nothing really crazy. MP 1.6 rockers. I do have a low gear 904 and 4.56 gear, went through the traps at 7050 most times at 125mph.
So yes, 10's are very doable but we race cars not dyno's or flow benches so as always, your results may vary Brian

My small block uses a small solid roller from Comp (XR286R, 248/254 duration with .576/.582 lift) ported Edelbrocks, 10.8:1 compression, 750 carb, 727, 8" converter, 4.10 gear, 3200 lbs...will run 10.70's, but I'm expecting to get it into the 10.60's when the air gets cooler. No issues with the roller cam on my street/strip car...its been in there for 4 years now...many street miles and over 300 passes on the strip.
67 Barracuda street car, 408, e85, 1.38 60', 6.44 @105.9 in the 1/8 mile, 10.19 @130.5 in the 1/4...so far....
