I finally scored a good used windshield for my RR and was wondering what was the best way to remove the current windshield stickers (state inspection) without ruining them so I could reuse them on my new glass. I figured the glass companies must do it all the time..

Thanks!

I know some stickers are designed NOT to be removed. When you try they leave a portion of the sticker on the glass and then the remainder of the sticker shows "VOID". When doing this in the past I placed masking tape over the sticker and then scraped the sticker and tape off with a razor blade. I then returned the tape with the sticker to the issuing agency and they provided a replacement.

Check with your issuing agency.

Good luck,
Frank

I had the windshield replaced on my wife's car about 6 months ago by a glass company and know they just transfered the stickers to the new glass so I'm assuming there is a way to do it....

Not that I would ever do it? ......but use a heat gun, not a blow dryer, directly on the sticker, heat the sticker to the point it gets too hot to touch, about 150 degrees, pick the edge with a razor blade, to start a corner, then peel back slowly, while appling heat to the stiker,.....should come off undamaged, if you apply enough heat,....then heat the "new" spot, before appling, then press the sticker on, heat it into place, to adhere the transfer glue

Great! Thanks for all the suggestions!

If you soak them with WD40 or glass cleaner do you need some other adhesive to reattach them?

Thx!

I take it you want to "transfer" an inspection sticker?

If you use the heat gun like I suggested, you don't need any adhesive.......I think the last thing you want is "officer friendly" thinking it's been removed/reapplied.......known as "altering State Documents"......don't ask me how I know?

The sticker is going back on the same car so there shouldn't be any problem....

Thx

Ask this Guy, I think he takes repop requests if you're going for a vintage style.

Hi,
Next time you want to put a sticker on your window, put it on a piece of Plastic wrap. Trim down the plastic wrap to size. Put a litte water on it and stick it to your windshield. Looks like installed correctly, but you can just grab a edge and take it off. Re-wet it and stick on the new glass. You can move it from car to car easily and over and over.
